I'm using G.SKILL falcon 128gb. Just installed win 7. SSD in sata port0, I checked TRIM is working.
I've done all sort of WIN7 + SSD tweaks.

Am I good to go? I don't need intel rapid storage tech for single SSD do I?

Is ICH10R an Intel I/O controller hub? How do I check If I've got ICH10R?
Well, it *is* a little OT... but:
ICH10R is the only Intel Storage controller chip used on all X58 mobos, I believe, so you should be good...

Make sure you've actually plugged it into a port that is controlled by the ICH10R... (you can see which ports are which in your mobo manual)

You can install the Intel RST drivers if you like, for example if you have a RAID array installed next to your single SSD, or if you prefer to use 3rd-party drivers... might provide better performance... You'd need to benchmark... While you're at it you wanna post your results in my thread (Pluggin...

So yeah if you're not sure if AMD/JMicron/Whoeverthehell made your driver supported TRIM, then just use the MSAHCI or MS IDE driver that comes with Win7...

Basically if you do nothing (don't install any HDD Controller drivers) you should be good weirdly enough...

With the ICH10R (and other Intel chips), you get TRIM even if you do install the driver...

Also remember you never get TRIM in RAID... until someone makes a driver that supports it.
So let me get this straight, from what you're saying
TRIM works from both the southbridge of your motherboard and the drive?

so I have an Nvidia Chipset, is TRIM automatically there if I get a X-25M or will I have to update my motherboard drivers?

maybe a little un-clear:
  • Using microsoft built-in msahci driver, you get TRIM
  • Using IDE mode built-in pciide driver, you get TRIM (according to some sources)
  • If NVidia releases a driver where they say "It supports TRIM"
  • If your SSD has old non-TRIM firmware, or is a model that will never support TRIM then NO you don't get trim
  • In RAID mode you do NOT get TRIM

So, plug time; post your results in my AS SSD thread, and I'll tell you what driver you're using (it shows on the screenshot)...

According to this thread it's possible to have AHCI+TRIM... but only using the JMicron controller, or you can have IDE+TRIM via the standard pciide driver

With the latest Rapid Storage drivers from Intel, you do get TRIM in RAID mode, but you don't get TRIM on SSDs on drives in an array.

So you can run an SSD and a RAID0 of mechanical disks on the ICH10R, and still get TRIM on the SSD (subject to the SSD supporting TRIM obviously).

Yeah still unclear I guess, I meant when the drive was in RAID mode (aka a member of an array)

Vertex 2 should be fine, it supports trim.
Same with the Kingston V+ I got.

Vertex and V are the ones to avoid.

Note that there are two Kingston V+ lines. The older SNV225 with a Samsung controller did not support TRIM. The newer SNVP325 with a Toshiba controller does.

That said.... The Vertex was the first to use the most widely implemented controller Indilinx Barefoot. It is superior to your Kingston V+.

The Vertex and Kingston V+ about match performance in 4KB reads... but the Vertex beats it as 4KB writes, 64KB read/writes, 1MB read/writes, and random read/write.

So you are telling me that you can't get TRIM support on a AMD SB710 (780G NB) chipset? I have a single OCZ Vertex 2 120GB and TWO WD Black 640GB drives on RAID0. The SSD is NOT in the RAID array, only the two mechanical hard drives are. Am I not getting TRIM support?

The short answer is no.But you really are no worse off then intel users.

Trim really isn't working well there either.Ocz will release a toolbox for sandforce shortly, that should help.
