Board won't post if waterblock is to tight?

As title states, I noticed I was getting some higher than normal idle temps so I tightened down the screws on the waterblock, they were only finger tight. So i turn them maybe a quarter turn tighter (not a whole lot of force) and press ON. The board flashes and the fans spin for a half second then shuts off, turns back on and repeats the same thing. As it was doing this I was slowly loosening the screws and eventually it sprang back to life.

This one's new to me, anyone have any ideas?

it's the simplest things. I'm gonna tear it all down after work and double check all my rubber washers are in good shape.

What would it be shorting on though? The capacitors are good distance away from the block.

Yea, it's possible. I've had weird scenarios like that even with hsf's.

I think it's more with the pressure applied to the pins in the socket. I've had it happen to me before and tore it down. All was good as far as installation, it was just the socket itself that didn't like the pressure and that's how it lets you know.

So it might not exactly be shorting, but losing contact with some pins due to imbalanced pressure.

Not really 100% sure, it's always freaked me out when it's happened. But it's not unheard of.

..Are you using a back plate? If not your board maybe warping too much, ive got my block tightened down the whole way and its fine, but i wouldnt do so without a backplate.
