$600 to spend

Thread Starter
I just sold my xfx 5770 xxx edition, as well as some other older components. So I am kinda stuck here as to how to I should spend my new found fortune.

Firstly, I play games at 1900 x 1080 now, used to be at 1600x 1050, hence why I got rid of my 5770.

so I am sorta stuck between these two graphics cards

asus EAH 5870 and the evga gtx 480 sc (only like $20+ more then reference)

The other problem is I am also wanting to replace my case, the Storm scout, as it does not provide enough air flow for overclocking.

so I was thinking

GTX 480 SC

+CM690 II

=$601.97

or

asus EAH 5870

+CM690 II (or a better case)

=$492.97

Not sure which to way to go =/

to many factors

any suggestions

GTX 470 (~$350) + HAF 932 (~$140) + either an audio card if you don't have one (my Asus D2X is godly) or an SSD.

Wish I were in your position.

I would recommend a GTX 470 and the CM HAF 932 as well

Or if you are in USA try to get the Dell deal of the GTX 480 for $364+shipping

gtx 470?

I was under the impression that it performed under a 5870 used more power, and (according to some ati fanboys) is the bastard son of the devil.

I am avoiding the haf 932, the styling doesn't jibe with me. Plus no dust filters and the thing is huge!

The ATCS 840 seems like a better case

2,400 Apple flavored gum balls. Do it naow.

But if you are not fond of bubble gum, go with a GTX 470 and wait for the HAF-X or the TJ11. Both of them are going to be amazing cases.

470 performs pretty much on par with a 5870, sometimes better sometimes worse. It's a great card, less expensive than a 5870 last I checked too... Way I see it, you can buy a 470 now, then buy another one used a year or so from now for say $200, and both in the near and relatively far future you can max out any game.

Edit: since you're saying no to the HAF line, maybe a Raven RV02?

I just spent $600. New PSU, Case, 7 slipstream 110cfm fans, and 1 kaze master fan control unit. No new GPU will have to wait for that.

ooo ssd! yea actually before I sold my 5770 and bought my p55 ftw I was planning on just adding another one and getting two ssd's for raid 0 sexyness.

But I really think that gtx 470 only out beats the 5870 and 5850 when aa or tesslation is enabled. plus once you factor in heat and power consumption that little bit of performance doesn't mean much. I could easly oc 5870 to match said performance, with less heat and less power.

which is why I went for broke and said gtx 480 because then the actual performance is worth the heat and the add power.

Unless I am missing something
