Get the 5870. Even a 5850 would work great for you. 5870 will give you a couple of more months before you have to update your video card though.
as for the gtx 480? would that extend that even further? I mean with evga I could use the step up program a while from now?

The GTX 480 is the best you can get right now for a single GPU. Did you miss the deal for $364?

Once you overclock both cards; the GTX 480 makes the gap between the 5870 and the 480 even bigger.

http://www.overclock.net/online-deal...0-364-tax.html

If you missed the amazing Dell GTX 480 deal. Get a GTX 470 for $297 with free shipping

Where do you get your information from? The 470 performs worse than a 5850 most of the time.

Check out hardocp, or Guru3D for some reviews and you'll see.

As for which card, if you have the money, get the 480 GTX. Best single card you can buy at the moment. Best value? Get a 5850. It can overclock to 5870 speeds, and it really is the sweet spot for your cash.

Yeah that was when they were using beta drivers. I never look at the actual reviews for the cards themselves, because they don't update them.

Look at guru 3d's reviews of the newer gtx 480's its pretty clear the 470 beats out the 5850. Doesnt really beat the 5870.

here is a good example

This is pretty bad advice. It is unclear what you're talking about when you say "newest tech"

I'm fine, thank you for asking. I have checked reviews, and even posted them. Unlike you, I have posted proof.

All of the reviews use OC'd i7's. I have no clue what you're talking about. I'm positive I meant the 5850.

Oh my goodness.

As per your request.

**SPOLER ALERT**
The 5850 beats the gtx470 overall.

They go head to head in this review. The 5850 winning a few and the gtx470 winning a few. The rest of the times they're pretty much equal. Assuming these numbers are correct the 5850 still consumes less power, runs cooler and is basically silent.

Making it.......the better card? Oh not to mention it's cheaper.

I was just trying to convey that the ati cards have been out for months and that newer cards from ati are around the corner. The nvidia cards have just been released making them "newer". The 5000 series won't see the same gains from driver releases that the nvidia cards will see.

Even if one could conclusively prove that ati>nvidia right now you might as well wait for the new 6000 series cards then.

I am not in favor of the 470, but I am not an idiot. When aa and tessellation are enabled the gtx's beat out the ati cards. Done and done.

Obviously the card has heating issues, and alot of power consumption.

But you're contradicting yourself when you say they are even, and then go on to say 470 blows 5850 is a winrar.

I am saying that there is no clear evidence that 5850 just takes a dump on nvidias attempt to compete. But show me, I want other sources besides your one old source. Q.E.D.

I'm aware it's june 12th. I linked the HARDOCP review, which was the only gtx470 review I could find from them. Did you even read the post I was replying too with that link?

It seems pretty clear to me, but I will simplify it some more. The 5850 wrecks the gtx470's **** because it is available for less, consumes less power and and is pretty much silent. This along with it's ability to go head to head with the gtx470, meaning losing some and winning some (I trust [H] and they're review proving that the 5850 performs better, but for the sake of the debate I'll believe the other reviews that say they're pretty much equal) make it the BETTER card. The gtx470 is just a bad card for the money, it get's owned by the 5850 (lower power consumption, lower price, similar performance, lower temps and silence) and for the price of a gtx470 you can pickup a 5870, and there no debate about the 5870 vs. gtx470.

It costs less because it's slower and has less features. That doesn't make it the better card though.

LOL I love how this guy says the GTX 470 gets owned by a 5850 even after reviews were posted and with older drivers that show the 5850 losing on every review
