Tips on installing EK water block on gtx480?

Thread Starter
I have taken off the cooler and was going to install the waterblock but must go to work. Do any of you guys who have installed this block have any tips or tricks to make sure I do everything right? I read a lot of threads where a incorrect installation wil cause the card to malfunction. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks

Yes, do as the instructions say and use a bit of tim to hold standoffs in place.

And just take your time.

Also, there is for sure one screw whole they say to use on the block but you can't.

http://81.90.180.2/ekwaterblocks/sho...1109830130.pdf In step 3 for placing stand-offs, notice there is one hole on the block without a standoff. Well in the instructions that come with the block it tells you to put a standoff there. You'll have a wth moment.

Other then that, it's gravy.

Oh yea, be careful when screwing in the screws with the washers. It's easy to tear them if you're just cranking away. It was hard for me to tell when they were tight enough. So just be a tad bit generous with them once pressure is starting to be applied to them.

And most of all, Enjoy the block!

Everything rx7racer said is definitely true. Don't half arse the thermal tape you put on though. Cut it down to size and cover the group of chips rather than in one long strip. Use tim to hold the spacers in place and drop a screw through them to center the thread. Very helpful. Also, the best way to mount it is to put the block on the edge of the table so you can line up the screws easily but the bracket on the end with the monitor connectors wont block your efforts.

I didn't have the problem with the washers but I had the wth moment when it told you to screw through a chip heh.

Also... make VERY VERY VERY sure any connectors you put in (including the stoppers) are tight. I screwed up and didnt tighten one connector between the two gtx480s very much. It leaked a lot during the leak test today. Bit of a panic ofc. Thankfully only the fans and pump were running. I had to take it apart to make sure the EK block wasn't faulty. Then I discovered my screw up.
