New Video Card $200 max

Thread Starter
I am in need of a new vid card as stated http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/75...tml#post772015
So I guess i would like a new card under 200 bucks that supports dual monitors. Preferably cheaper. Thanks
Edit-Sory pci-e, and I can wait till the 7900's come out if you think the price will drop on the other cards. Thanks

PCI-E or AGP? Be more specific.
I would go for a 6800GS PCI-E for PCI-E, and an x1600XT 256 for AGP.

Nvidia 6800gs

SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO2

Or go bargain hunting on ebay.

The 7800gt's should go down in price once the 7900's are released

I've benn checking ebay, and have seen 6800gt's going buy it now for aywhere from 140-200 USD. So I am wondering if that is a better choice? How do I know if it supports dual monitors, if it has two dvi pugs or a vga and dvi does it? Thanks, and how low do you think the 7800gt's wil drop?

I would go for the GT over the GS because the GS PCI-E has one VGA port, and one DVI, where as the GT has 2 DFI ports, and has more pixel and vertex pipelines.

Is it all right to get one with two dvi ports, adn run adapters to vga on both? Will the performance be better than the gs? What cards are in this price range in the ati side? Thanks

Well, almost any video card these days has dual-monitor support. I would go with the 6800GS, because it is inexpensive and has good clocks. If you want ATI, go with the X1600XT. It's a bit cheaper than the 6800GS for slightly lesser performance. I wouldn't go with the X8-- cards, as they are outdated for the performance they deliver, lacking features like SM3.0.

EDIT: Yes, it will be fine running DVI to VGA adapters. They don't do D/A conversion, so you'll lose a fraction of a percent in quality.

So a 6800gt is a dx8 card? I think I may be slightly comfused.
