I am in need of a new vid card as stated http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/75...tml#post772015
So I guess i would like a new card under 200 bucks that supports dual monitors. Preferably cheaper. Thanks
Edit-Sory pci-e, and I can wait till the 7900's come out if you think the price will drop on the other cards. Thanks
I've benn checking ebay, and have seen 6800gt's going buy it now for aywhere from 140-200 USD. So I am wondering if that is a better choice? How do I know if it supports dual monitors, if it has two dvi pugs or a vga and dvi does it? Thanks, and how low do you think the 7800gt's wil drop?

I would go for the GT over the GS because the GS PCI-E has one VGA port, and one DVI, where as the GT has 2 DFI ports, and has more pixel and vertex pipelines.
Is it all right to get one with two dvi ports, adn run adapters to vga on both? Will the performance be better than the gs? What cards are in this price range in the ati side? Thanks
Well, almost any video card these days has dual-monitor support. I would go with the 6800GS, because it is inexpensive and has good clocks. If you want ATI, go with the X1600XT. It's a bit cheaper than the 6800GS for slightly lesser performance. I wouldn't go with the X8-- cards, as they are outdated for the performance they deliver, lacking features like SM3.0.
EDIT: Yes, it will be fine running DVI to VGA adapters. They don't do D/A conversion, so you'll lose a fraction of a percent in quality.
Any card that came out starting with the FX5200 from nVidia and the 9500 from ATI supports DX9.0c. Cards from Nvidia's 6 and 7 series and ATI's X--- and X1--- series support DX 9.0 a lot better than the FX and 9--- series cards. SM3.0 refers to shader model 3.0, which renders visual effects like light. The X--- cards only support SM2.0, so they won't look as good.

Nope, the FX series cards support DX 9.0C, BUT they are only emulating DX 9.0, so you will only get DX 8.1 shaders and effects, but it is still running in DX 9.0 mode.
So it is pretty much just DX 8.1, only a little better.
So a gt will only support dx9, but won't look as good? I need a card that won't get outdated for a while, so i guess the gs is better? What prices do you think the 7800gt's will go for on ebay after the 7900's are released? Thanks

No, the 6800GT will look THE SAME as the GS image quality wise, and BETTER than the x850 XT image quality wise.
So which one would be better, the 6800gt or 6800 gs? Performance wise won't the gt beat the gs because of 16 pipelines compared to 12? Also which is better image quality wise? Thanks
Can someone please help me by listing the positives and negatives of getting a 6800gt or gs. The prices are around the same, so it would just be performance wise. Thanks
Hey I have the 6800 GS and it and it is much better then the 6800 gt after overclocking. It plays HL2 max setteings and bw2 and COD2 all on max setteings with no lagg i would say that if you are a hardcore gamer on a not so hard core budget I would go for the 6800 GS.
1. Fast and can go much faster
2. cold
3. OC able
4. OCing is warrentied
5. Newer
6. 12 pipe lines
7. 520 GHz core speed
8. 1215 MHz mem speed
9. Great for gaming
10. Has digital vibrance control
negites
1. Noisy
2. Low resulution
3. does not support two of the same montors.
4. and it is very big
