Looks good, I have the same ram and it performs exceptionally well, when it drops in price I'm going to pick up another couple sticks.

On the processor I was in the torn between the 955 and 965 when I was building my rig, I got the 955 for $140 a few months back so the 200MHz wasn't going to justify an extra $30-$40. It overclocks fine to 965 speeds on stock vcore.

Right now the 955 is $20 cheaper, so if you think an extra 200MHz is worth it, by all means get it, otherwise you could save a few bucks.

Wow. At least pull that 5970 out for yourself and throw in some lower end card. I doubt your mother games.

Your new build is just a slightly better variation of your old build to be honest. 0_o

And where's the HDD? I suggest you get the SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 500GB HDD, or 2 if you need the extra space and want the added performance which can be achieved with RAID0.

To be honest, I'd suggest you simply build your mom a simple PC from scratch, maybe spend a couple hundred dollars on it depending on her needs, then spend the rest on upgrading your current build.

Add an SSD for a boot drive, another 5870 if you want to tri-fire for the sake of it, a hexa-core CPU, better cooling (by the way, when you said your friend was getting you a liquid cooling kit, does that mean it's some pre build water loop kit? If it is, that kinda sucks...)

Get yourself a big screen, and maybe an SSD. then build her a new computer, and it'll be much cheaper since I somewhat doubt that she will utilize your sig rig anyway.

Why would you make a new build with a 790FX mobo when you've already got a rig with an 890GX mobo in it? If anything, your new build should have an 890FX chipset board or something...

Also, I'm agreeing with everyone else saying that you should upgrade your current rig and build your mom a cheap rig. Seems like a waste of money to be giving your mom a 5970, a Corsair HX850, and a 955.

Yeah seriously. Does your mom really need a 5970 and a Phenom 955 at 4GHz? Keep your current rig. A Phenom 965 is not better than a 955 if you already can OC yours to 4GHz. And is a 5970 seriously not good enough for you? I guess you could sell that and get 2 5870s if you really wanted.

One thing though. DO NOT get a X6. Use the 955 to hold you over till Bulldozer.

I have seen people with Intel i7 980Xs benchmark in games like Crysis, and HOLY ****! They get a lot more FPS than people with Phenoms even with the same graphics card.
