[Engadget] HTC EVO suffering from glass separation issues?

Potential bad news for EVO owners: we're seeing plenty of reports from folks having issues with the lower portions of their screens. Conspiracy theories say that the adhesive holding the glass is failing, causing the screen to peel up a bit and embark on a very slow journey to capacitive independence. This separation is causing excessive light leakage from below, a problem that we noted in our review but apparently gets continually worse as users spend more time massaging their screens -- even those not being as hard on theirs as this guy was. No official response from HTC yet and we're not sure just what a fix could be, but we have seen people do some wonderful things with duct tape.

Saw this on Engadget earlier, this is pretty sucky. Reminds me of the issues I had with my Palm Pre when I first got it.

Oh well, I'm still getting my EVO since I pay extra for the phone Insurance anyways.

Jeez, that sucks. Oh well, I'm still perfectly happy with my Nexus One.

You wouldn't need phone insurance, just call up Sprint or HTC and you should be able to get a replacement because it's not your fault.

HTC does QC, not sprint

Mine's doing this I think, the glass was poking up over the bezel, but apparently people have noticed this on the iPhone too at one point, and even the Nexus One.

The solution according to them? Hairdryer on the lower part of the screen then clamp it together for a while to stick it back. Or tell sprint that your phone is broken and they'll order a replacement for you apparently.

Why do people feel the need to go to such extreme measures to repair such an expensive piece of electronics that's still covered under warranty? I'm sure that's not Sprint's advice. Return the darn thing. And keep returning it until you get a unit that's not screwed up or pick another phone.

Funny how that happens.

No, it's not point is it's fixable IF you weren't willing to dick around with your other options. I don't plan on blowdrying my phone.

I didn't really mean to direct that at you. I just meant in general. But I'm glad you've got some common sense

But I could see doing that if you're out of warranty and have exhausted every other means.

Well crap. I've been indifferent about the evo from day one. I got it on launch day and apparently the jackhole who set it up surfed my phone and found some porn.

Day one I get a new phone and it has a flippin virus. So I started off with a bad taste in my mouth.

Later on I find out I really don't care too much for sense UI.

All in all the phone is great, but some odds and ends about this thing are just downright quirky. This thing with a 1ghz snapdragon is slower than my droid clocked at only 800mhz.

Hope 2.2 comes out soon, with root as well would be WONDERFUL.

It's slower because of the 30fps lock. With that said it isn't BAD, and I guess I'm saying that because it's my first Android phone.

I'm going to the sprint store to put my phone on the TEP, then getting it replaced when I hear that HTC has resolved the issue...which I hope is soon. Same goes for that 30 fps lock, what a dumb idea to save battery life.

OMAP 3430 (droid processor) has a faster graphics unit in it in comparison to snapdragon.

Just took the gel cover off to see if I'm having this effect. Nothing that I can tell. Frankly, I'm starting to really like this phone.. the battery issue really isn't as bad as it was originally thought to be.

Now if only I could get used to these on screen keyboards.. Its infuriating

Not true at all. I personally am VERY VERY dissapointed that HTC would release a device with such an issue. I love HTC but NOTHING like this is acceptable. Surely they should have caught this with testing. I mean if its as bad as they say then then Im just glad I didnt jump over to sprint first chance I got.

REALLY? The keyboard? HTCs android keyboard is suppose to be one of the best, even better than the iphone. From personal experience I have to agree. I love it on my hero. T9 typing in portrait is amazing. Now are you saying that because you would rather have a physical keyboard?

You can change your keyboard or get a Swype keyboard...

For those who don't like Sense, it wasn't clear from you posts, you do know you can turn Sense off right?
