Watercooled -> ready to oc

post #1 of 4

Hey all,

This is my first post on an overclocking forum, and I understand sometimes people aren't receptive to teh no0bs. I hope that my grammar, spelling, and general non-idiocy will grant me a few decent responses

If you look in my profile, you'll see my system specs:
64x2 4400+
An8-SLI Deluxe
nVidia Geforce 7800GT @ 490mem, 1100core
etc.

All of this is watercooled inline with 3/8" hose:
Resivoir ->
Pump ->
CPU waterblock ->
120mm fan/radiator ->
GPU waterblock ->
2x 120mm fan/radiator pulling air from outside house window->
resivoir

My computer runs at 25C idle - I don't have a way to measure temp while it is running right at the moment, but I have a Logisys 3.5in bay dual temp gauge that will be at my door tomorrow.

I am fairly tech savvy, and I pick up on things very quickly. Unfortunately I have no idea where to start with overclocking this computer. Any advice as to programs to use and/or numbers you think I should be trying to hit would be great.

Sorry for the long-winded post - I wanted to get it all on the table in one thread.

Ted

*Edit*
I forgot to add - this was the first computer I ever built/setup. I built it, powered it up first try, and it wouldn't boot off the XP disk. I fiddled around in the bios, turned off the aiNOS overclocking or w/e that was and it booted up fine... is this common??

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It's always best to OC through the BIOS (if your motherboard allows you to) instead of using programs.
Check this guide... it should get you started.
Good luck.

Yes I read that.

From my participation in other forums.. I've found that information is usually found by asking questions.. not saying "Hi, my name is ____". That's more of a support group type of thing. I'm looking for answers, not inner peace

I'm looking for any little tips you gurus have.. like checking some obscure box somewhere way down deep in the system that gets you a 1% increase. I tune cars, so I'm into squeezing every drop of power out of something while keeping it running for a long time. I know alot about the car thing. I know nothing about the cpu thing.
