Employed my sister to do the corners because she's more nimble and careful with her fingers.

Great... needed to sand another area down to the metal and start again. That's what you get for poor prep and over-ambitious layer thicknesses.

Meanwhile the HDD cage was finished with a couple of coats of clear laqueur to stop scratches and makeit last.

The back panel finished after many coats and re-coats and then 2 laquers.

...and with the pci slot thing

The top and front (had a few problems with the bottom)

Practice assembly eager beaver that I am.

Literally waiting for paint to dry!

Just realised a big up to "The Riddle of the Sands"... great book & great film!

Finally finished the bottom as good as I cba to. Most of the major ****-ups will be covers by the HDD cage and the front fan. Found some sunlightfor the assembly so the paint looks extra shiny, gloss and bright.

And from the back...

FYI rivets used were 3.2mm (about £1.50 odd from B&Q)

I actually loved rivetting. THe feeling was so satisfying and manly when the parts snapped together so firmly and true. Beautiful. Also fascinated as to how they worked. The bar sticks out to be grabbed then the tool grabs them and pulls the up distorted the other side and locking it in place. So satisfying after so many days without a case!

Left the top off cos I heard it would be easier to get in. Thought about fitting the HDD back panel whilst it was out but then tried to squeeze it in after. Ended up making a little mess of the bottom under the cage. Out of sight, out of mind though.

So I then went on to do try and make the back panel for the HDD cage.
Taped up a spare case and marked the area to cut.

EVENTUALLY cut it out. Tried using a rotary tool but got sick of them so bought a jigsaw for £10 and some spare blades for £3. Made mincemeat of the metal in no time.

Unfortunately for very straight and after further cutting I made it slightly too small.

After cutting the psu power cables to length I think the back panel isn't necessary but dunno.

I think thats as far as the pictures go but I'll check my camera.

So just what do you need to surf the web and play games now? It maybe older hardware but that doesn't matter. Just because you have the latest and greatest it still doesn't mean you have the best.

Or you could give him some of your stuff and or buy him some new hardware and help him out with it since you think it is just old and outdated...........

Good work and can't wait to see the finished product.

Well I did say my financial situation isn't great so even though I hate my motherboard I can't afford to upgrade the cheaper AMD way atm so I'm only buying harddrives and other permanent features.

I had a quad core (pII 940) but it wasnt noticably better at anything other than working whilst streaming to the ps3 and copying large amounts of files (100Gb+). But I rarely do either and with CS Condition Zero as my main game of choice the 4850 does fine, even if i want to play some cod it'll max it out at 1680x1050.

You think that this one's bad you should see my other pc.

128Mb Ram...

I'll slowly upgrade, if you wan't to give me a helping hand or have a spare rig that happens to make mine look like a pocket calculator donations of any kind would be more than welcome.

I have actually kind of finished for now just with minor tweaks going on. Pics will be up tomorrow after I take them in the sun.

Yes that was of the point i was trying to make. If it works for then that is what matters. As just because someone has a i7, ssd, high end video cards. They shouldn't talk about others pc's hardware.

I guess it is just the principle and the moral of it to me. I will wait for the pictures.

Just a quick update to show some of the basic tools I'm using, nothing fancy or expensive, in fact quite the opposite!
Coloured zipties, using orange, white and black for all the final ties and the other colours for prelim management.

My toolbox, I'm using a candle for heatshrink as it's cheap and I don't have a lighter. (My heatshrink is black so the carbon residue isn't noticeable. Also a ton of screws, jigsaw blades, barbs speaker connectors, elec tape screw drivers, pliers, chunky snippers for cable ties pencils, impact adhesive and spare wires and heatshrink and OBVS masking tape.

The toolbox makes finding my tools and little parts alot easier.

Been playing around with my triple 120 rad. Stripped it of most of the paint off and proceeded to spray it white with the fins lightly sprayed with orange. If onyone has a cheap way of stripping the paint off the fins I might redo them.

A pic to follow with the cables tied down to the hidden side of the rad.

I seem to have not taken any more photos of the re-assembly so heres some of the story so far...

The orange strip is a little strange but I like it and when the sides are off it would look weird as black.

This drive has the same surface finish but a slightly lighter shade of black. It matches well enough for me.

The back is probs my facourite part, but the O/I panel will have to be sprayed as its looking like the black sheep of the case.

Nothing fancy here yet, sleeved cable? deffo! Painted fan? Maybs.

With the panel off, trying to avoid sounding arrogant I really like the way it came out.

Paint that rear 140mm?
