Samsung 830 256gb drive. Does it look OK? I love it. More than anything I notice everything is quieter.

I've looked into the Crucial M4 and don't like the benchmark results. In terms of price-vs-performance maybe it's good, but I'd rather pay twice as much and get 50% improvement in performance. As I mentioned, it's a business expense so I'm effectively only paying half price. I don't want to regret going for a cheaper one, which I inevitably would.
Looking at the M4 it disappoints on performance, the Vertex 3 Max Iops edition seems to perform awesomely, but the feedback on Amazon tells the story I didn't want to hear (BSOD).
The Samsung 830 on the other hand performs very well (better than the M4 in most tests), and significantly doesn't have a lot of stories of unreliability. It helps that they make all the components themselves. I think I'll go for a 256GB Samsung 830 (after a few days of waiting to see if someone convinces me not to) because according to this below (which I snagged from amazon.com) the larger drives are faster. I thought it was the other way around, weird.
edit: The 256GB Samsung is now in my Amazon basket ready. I'd happily pull the trigger right now, but want to see if anyone tells me don't do it.

How much? Did you see the deal post I made at Frys for the Samsung 830 256gb for $289 no rebate?

Looking at those two most recent benchmarks above (both on page 196 of this thread along with this message), I'm pleased to see that the 830 beats the M4 in 7 out of 8 of the tests, and by 100% on the sequential writes. Considering I copy a lot of large files around, that's a pleasing number to see.

I have to say though, that I'm questioning the weighting/value that the AS test applies to the 4K-64Thrd value over the Sequential writes. Look at the score in the write column. The M4 gets 236 against the 830's score of 217. Even though the M4 lost 3 out of those 4 tests against the 830, the weighting in the scoring system of the 3rd test seems to be excessive. I would have thought that the almost 100% improvement on sequential writes was such a massive win, that it would be enough to make it win the entire write test outright. Instead, the huge bias the 4K-64Thrd has on that entire column manages to wipe out that Seq. write win entirely. Not to mention that the combined total values are wrong. For the M4, 336+236 = 572 (not 735) and for the 830, 373+217 = 590 (not 782). Thoughts?

edit: just noticed, even my two year old misaligned Intel G2 SSD is beating the M4 on access time.

I benchmarked my OCZ Vertex Plus which is SATA II, and was disappointed with my results frown.gif

Might be time to get an Agility 3.

It's pretty nuts. I can't imagine going back to even a single ssd. Raid 0 is the way to go.
