So I'm stumped. I got 442 with my Vertex 2, yet HD Tune gives me some really bizarre readings:

And here's the HD Tune weirdness:

Oh well, I guess the the (consistent) performance drops in HD Tune aren't anything to worry about....

Yep, you just placed first in Sandforce-based drives.

HD Tune is always inconsistent on OS drives... also remember Sandforce is compressed so readings vary wildly.

Well that was an unexpected surprise. No complains here then... gift horse, mouth, etc. Kinda stupefying how high the threaded writes are... I would guess it's due to the compression you mentioned. It's repeatable though, ran it a few more times and it never varied from the 441-442 range.

My Benchmark:

I think is low on the score, but it is a 30GB OS drive, AHCI and using FW 1.5, not 1.6 atm since I have heard there is no real difference in performance. I have had the drive about a month or so now.

EDIT: Score is ok since its Idilinx based, but I need opinions on whether or not to upgrade to 1.6 FW

I think it would probably increase your score a bit, you'll notice my indilinx vertex is top of the indilinx chart in the OP now and I have to think that's because I'm the only one updated to the 1.6 firmware. If you get a good imaging program the destuction of the data on the drive isn't that big an issue. I used Macrium Reflect free and was up and running again in no time. Although I did have to stick the drive in another machine to update it, the boot cd firmware method gave me the bad command or filename issue which was a pain.

magic-man, you didn't fill in the form on the OP... I would fill it in for you, but don't know what mobo/disk controller you're using...

I cleaned up your entry and resorted the list, your offset text color was actually green, not red, and your controller is a P55 PCH not an ICH10
As far as score goes, it's actually in the normal range for that drive, especially considering it's only got 30GB to work with.

Yep.. it's possible 1.6 is a bit faster, although you're using the 120GB version and he's using the 30GB version, so there will probably always be a performance gap... Also from what I've read, not much difference was noticed between 1.5 and 1.6.
Although if it was me, I would have already updated, lol since I love tweaking things...

Hah yeah I'm the same, I'll spend days on a tiny issue just to get it perfect. I was trying to resist the 1.5->1.6 firmware update since there was no real mention of performance enhancements in the changelog but eventually it was just irresistible - even with the issues I had with the boot cd firmware route.

"the pursuit of performance"

possibly similar to:

"the pursuit of perceived perfection"

I know I'm probably OCD on some level
