how come the 3d fallouts only and not the classics? fallout 1 was at the pinnacle of cRPGs imo

I played the heck out of Fallout 3. I'm struggling to find a mod combo to emulate the mod combo that I loved with Fallout 3. Its mostly FWE and MMM that I missed the most. I'm not so much looking for new content with New vegas since it doesn't really need that at least not with project nevada core. I'm really just looking for a tougher rebalanced with some more spawns so the wasteland doesn't seem so barren at times.

I totally agree. But I liked the second one better

Among other things. I just have beat Fallout 3 and NV so many times that it gets rather boring, honestly, i've been playing ME a lot recently as well as DayZ for ArmA II

i liked both. gameplay wise i enjoyed fallout 2 more simply because there was more to do + the companion system was improved. fallout 2 also had alot more wackiness and humour and jokes (which was fine in my opinion.) i still liked the plot more for fallout 1 though, master >>>> frank horrigan/the prez, brotherhood of steel, fota etc

i enjoyed new vegas but i was really saddened that they stuck with so much from fallout 3, especially the engine/FPS style. the adaption of the special system just sucked and was never ever going to work for an FPS game - too many stats were virtually worthless outside of getting perks (which occured way too often imo, removing any need for choice or consideration. most of them were useless too tongue.gif.) all the special attributes were useful, so players were encouraged not to min-max especially since there wasnt any real dump stats (even charisma was useful since it affected companions.) i liked that NV tried to remedy some of the useless attributes in fallout 3, like using endurance as the determinant for implants, but still, it was just so much weaker and less important compared to the originals

in reality, all the stats were worthless in fallout 3 because you could just get that dumb perk + bobbleheads and have 10 in all (i guess the same is true with fallout 2, since the priest gives you the magazine that maxes all your stuff, but thats mostly a novelty thing since it makes you so retardedly OP + the game is already over by then anyway.) but even ignoring that, its just so bland:

strength - useful in both
perception - totally useless in f3, very useful for any ranged character in f1/2
endurance - mostly useless in f3 as hit points really didnt mean much, more important in f1/2 as it was turn based and you always took hits + you got more hp per level with higher endurance
charisma - dump stat in f3, useful for companions in f2, dump stat in f1
intelligence - very useful in f1/2, since being a dumbass in f3/NV didnt really affect quests. also, since the skill system is also broken and lame in f3/nv, skills were much more important in f1/2
agility - dump stat unless you wanted to do the VATS crap, which was never necessary anyway, very important in f1/2 as it controlled how many moves you could make per turn
luck - useful in both

the skill system transition pisses me off too. imo, having no skill cap but with diminishing returns creates more specialisation and trade-offs with pumping a skill over a certain point in f1/2. with new vegas, a level 50 character with average intelligence maxes out ALL skills. the only really useful stat to pump in gamebryo fallout games was speech, since it was easy enough to kill with firearms at decent levels anyway. oh and another thing with skills was having a ceiling + books means you had to limit yourself if you wanted to make an efficient character, meaning walking around with 80 EW even when you could afford to go 100 coz you didnt yet have the skill books - totally breaking immersion and putting too much emphasis on watching your skills and not enough on enjoying the game

rant rant rant rant but chris avellone and co did a good job with the plot for NV. lots of different, morally ambiguous groups to encounter and join. MCA's writing was also excellent, as usual. i also loved the landscape and cowboy/western feel, rather than going with the same stale environment (although i did like what f3 did with the ruined buildings and subway stations, it got old very quick and felt very linear.) fallout 3, on the other hand, had such a cliche recycled plot (the enclave are back!!!! stick some super mutants in there too.) all of new vegas' storylines were reinforced with great lore and backstory, whereas F3 totally neglected it.

i didnt expect the world of NV since its so hard to transition a game meant for isometric, turned based role playing into a shooter, and, gameplay-wise, it was pretty bland but hey, its not like a van buren remake was ever an option for obsidian anyway. i think they did a good job with what they had, but i seriously hope that the attribute/skill system gets revamped in later fallout games

Check out the mod called, "Warzones". I think it might be what you're looking for.

I've always loved Fallout since the original Fallout was out. With FO3 and FNV, I've enjoyed playing them on my laptop, but have maxed out the graphics as much as I can on my poor GPU on the laptop to the point that it has shut my laptop down too much due to overheating. I'm building a computer and cant wait to see what the full effects and best aliasing/resolution brings. I think it will breathe some fresh air back into my FO gaming experience.

Hey, I meant to ask a while ago, about a month ago I upgraded from my Phenom II 955 to this beast of a processor 3570K. In Fallout do any of you know if there will be any significant performance boost? (I am about to reinstall Fallout NV, just curious while it installs)

All Bethesda games are CPU intensive so if you weren't already running 60FPS on your Phenom II 955 then you will now and if you were it will be a lot smoother.

I also went from a AMD Phenom II x4 955 to a 3770K and you can certainly notice the difference in the majority of games biggrin.gif.

Edit: Fallout Tactics was my favorite out of the early fallout games.
