Upgrading to Corsair 800D!

Alright I have a decent/slightly dated system thats just fine for me. But I was never proud of the cable management in my sig rig (CM 690); and when I first saw a video of the 800d i was like OMG I WANT.

So when the case went on sale (slightly) last week I couldnt help but pull the trigger. And since Im swapping the whole case, I figured why not upgrade some other parts as well; heres the upgrade list:

Corsair 800D case
Corsair H50 CPU liquid cooling
another 4850 to Xfire
GSkill Falcon 128GB SSD
2 more GB of DDR3
Rosewill 3.5'' card reader

I will post some pics of my old CM 690 soon!

Attachment 160504
Im pretty ashamed of the cabling, haha

Attachment 160505
my whole setup

You might consider switching to 1366. 775 is a little old. If you stay with 775 though, Don't get 6gb of ram. 4gb is plenty. Single card is better than a dual card setup, so maybe consider a higher single card. Haven't heard much on the g.skill ssds, so I can't say anything about that, but you might want to get an intlel, or ocz ssd instead.

I thought about i7, especially since I have a Microcenter nearby, but bottom line is that I will be looking at another ~$400 or so, when the 775 is more than fast enough for me. The only games I play is L4D2 and Civilization, and neither of them are CPU demanding. And I know a single 5850 would be better, but I got the 4850 off another old machine, and the 2GB of ram came off a Dell that we ordered for business; so minimal cost.

G.Skill SSD is actually surprisingly good: Avg 225mb read and 167mb write Review Link. And their tech support is pretty responsive when I had to RMA an old drive.

a 9550 @ 3.4 will do about as well as an i7 at 2.8, so if WillanHaynard is telling me that somebody who buys a stock gaming rig from alienware with an i7 930 in it needs to upgrade their cpu, then id say he's wrong.

the 9550 will be fine for at least 2 more years.

Exhibit A: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/d...x1050,821.html

shows clockspeed is still very important if not most important in games.

Exhibit B: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/d...ecode,838.html

3.2 Ghz Core 2 quad vs. i7 @ 2.66 is very close, supports initial argument.

you will notice on all of those charts (except for synthetic benchmarks) that the QX 9770 does as well as or outperforms the i7 920. And that's 3.2 vs. 2.66, not even 3.4.

What the Heck? That makes no sense! I never said "Go buy a aleinware because this is ILoveWastingMyMoneyOnAlienWare.com" I said "Have you considered switching to 1366?" You've probably never heard of "Future Proof" too because as I said 775 is a little old and is not that future proof.
