Windows 7 Updates to avoid?

I've been afraid to install any updates to Windows 7 since that atrocious KB971033 messed up my computer a few months ago. Basically it detected cracked or pirated copies of the OS and disabled them. It told me I had a counterfeit copy of Windows even though I bought it directly from Microsoft and after much troubleshooting I ended up having to reinstall Windows altogether and call MS for a new key.

So, has Microsoft released any other updates since that KB971033 incident that I should probably avoid or be wary of? I love keeping my OS up-to-date, but I really don't want to deal with any more ridiculous problems.

I personally have had no issues with win 7 updates so if you are running Genuine you should not be seeing any issues either,
The Only one I have seen problems reported with so far is the KB971033.

I would download the rest and miss that One out if you are unsure of its effects on your system in its current state.

If you look at the description for the updates, it gives you a general idea of what the update is for. The Genuine Advantage checks actually state that they check to see if your system is running a legal copy.

just pick "download but dont install" and then just read the descriptions of each update and select which ones you want to install. steer clear of any WGA (windows genuine advantage) updates if they have been problematic for you.

Don't think so, but I know I had the same problem. Such a PITA. Bought it legit, and still got the BS notice. Just read the descriptions that the updates give before installing them and avoid anything related to "Windows Genuine" blah blah blah. I swear the only reason I even use Microsoft's crap is because I have to in order to ensure all programs are compatible with my OS.

WGA isn't very reliable. there were a lot of people caught out by that KB971033 patch, and like i thought, it hit legit people as well as the pirates.

haven't heard of issues with any other updates, though

more innocent people getting hammered on than pirated people that sounds about right. There to many hacks-cracks out there for people with pirated copies to get caught out i think.

Service pack 1 Probably wont be released for a Litle time yet,
Closer to the end of the year or maybe early next year nobody can really say its still in a BETA testing state.
