Yes, just download the latest drivers and it will work (my friend has an X-Fi card working on an ASUS A8N, and it sounds great)

I play bf2 nearly everyday, so i purchased the Xfi fatality for the EXACT reason that bf2 has amazing sound capabilities for it. well while im playing its kind of random, but about every 6-8 minutes i get static/hissing/popping/ and wierd noises that last from 30 secs to 1 minute. It does this all the time.

The Key with BF2 is that you NEED to play it on GAME mode in 2.1, the sound will upmix to virtual surround. 5.1 on BF2 is horrible and worthless, you need to play it on 2.1

As far as the A8N motherboards make sure that you use Driver Cleaner Pro to get all of the drivers off. Windows does fine for other drivers but it does not get all of them off. Once you use Driver Cleaner Pro and install the drivers you should be ok.

Also, it does not hurt to upgrade to a newer BIOS and it is a simple process with the Asus boards
