Mobile Athlon 3700. Is it compatable w/ my motherboard Gigabyte GA-K8NS

I'm considering getting a Mobile Athlon 3700 (socket 754) but I don't know if it is compatable with my motherboard. I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NS NForce3-250.

I hear this is an excellent processor for overclocking but I have no idea if it is compatable. The voltage is "1.5/1.1"....well what is it? 1.5 or 1.1

I'm pretty sure my motherboard can supply voltages lower than 1 volt! What voltage will this processor run at...what is its maximum voltage?

The second part of the question. I would not want this processor unlesss it could be overclocked to AT LEAST 2.8 GHz.Anything less would be a complete waste of money since I am already running at 2.4Ghz stable. How far is this processor garunteed to overclock?

The third question.....will my Zalman CNPS 7000B-CU crush the core? This is a very heavy heatsink and I will not be spending $250 on a cpu only to destroy it the minute I set a HS on top of it. I also refuse to buy another socket 754 motherboard just to accomidate this processor so if there is any doubt as to whether or not this processor will work, I will not waste the effort of trying to find out.

Honestly, do you think that this is a good value?

Compatability doesn't seem to be an issue. I have a 3400 mobile with DFI lanparty and did not have any issues. I had to flash the bios that is about it. as for the other two questions thats hard to say. There is no way to determine how far it can OC, but it is a clwhammer core so your on the right track for a solid OC. last question about yoru heat sink is all about you being gentle with it and if you think it is needed then get some supports for it to amke sure nothing falls, but it wont crush the core. I would do some research on it and ask the guys at newegg if it will be compatible.

Thank you. I will e-mail Gigabyte to find out. The vcore can be raised to 1.7 volts, and I have the latest BIOS possible. Some poster at Newegg said that this processor defaults to 1.1 volts, which is not sufficient to boot Windows, so he purchased a DFI lanparty. Which would be uneseccary because my mobo supports all types of voltage adjustments.

I was just curious if any other posters here have used a mobile processor on a desktop board before and if this can really be overclocked.

I would probably use thermal tape around the core to support and cusion the heatsink.

I have a 3700+ mobile clawhammer, I could bench it at 2.82ghz and 1.55 Vcore. You don't really need to worry about crushing the core it is actually very durable. If you are gonna go mobile I would suggest getting a Newark core because they oc alot more and use less volts.

I thought Newark was the non-mobile?

Newcastle is not mobile. Newark is.

Ok, so Newark is mobile and so is Clawhammer. Newegg only carries the Clawhammer. Not the Newcastle or Newark.

So why is it so hard to find a Newark???

I found this but they're out of stock

then what the hell? This must be wrong.

Why is it so hard to get a straight answer? It seems to more to try, the more confused I get.

A Newark 3700 mobile: 1.5 volts?

http://www.techpowerup.com/cpudb/details.php?id=59

And this ones magically 2.2 GHz????

Would someone be so kind as to list EVERY REVISION, MAKE And MODEL of a 3700 for a socket 754, That would help out alot. Be it a moble/non-mobile. Which ones are availible in a 3700?
