6800 gs brand new and dead?!?!

Thread Starter
Today I received my new 6800 GS AGP 8X card in the mail today and I am thinking "alright finally got here and I can't wait to put it in." So I take my old one out and place the new one in and when I boot up it just starts screaming a loud beep. I Shut down then reseat the card only to have it happen again. Place old card in and boots perfectly! So the question is; my brand new card is dead right?

Wait, did you uninstall the old one first? You need to remove the Catalyst ATi drivers in Windows Control Panel, reboot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner to fully remove the ATi drivers. Then you can switch off and replace the card with the 6800.

Just a thought!

When i was testing my new board 2 weeks ago. I set up the mobo and card and monitor etc. Well i started the initial boot up and my video card started whining very loudly. So i shut system down and reinstalled V/C. Booted again and it whined like crazy again. I sat back trying to figure out what i did wrong and low and behold.
I FORGOT TO PLUG IN VIDEO CARD ((molex power connector))

Just a thought and yes it happens to best of us
