Well, there are more yay than nay.

So I'll just go with whatever is the best bang for the buck, but won't be scared away by Maxtor. (They usually seem to have the best deals anyways)

i am very satisfied from my current drives (1x Maxtor, 1x Quantum), so i am considering to buy a new IDE Maxtor,as my mobo does not support SATA.

The 6L250R0 has 16mb cache and is DiamondMax 10, while the other has 8mb cache and is MaxLine II. The average seek times and theoretical transfer rates (UDMA133) are the same.

The 6L250R0 has twice the cache and is 64euro (about 76usd) cheaper, so what's the catch ?

Does buying the 7Y250P0 worth the extra money ?
The only spec difference i could find (browsing maxtor's web site) is that the more expensive MaxLine II series 7Y250P0 has a constant rate of 52mb/s (somethink like that, i don't remember exactly) while nothing relevant is mentioned about the other.

So, please help me if you know what exactly are the differences between these 2 HDD, or between the two different Maxtor series.

It's a good chance that TigerDirect is your problem. I've heard numerous reports of damaged and DoA merchandise ordered from TD.

I'm just saying this because I've never had any problems with my two Maxtor drives that I've had (and my brother's drive as well, for that matter), and I don't know anyone directly who has. I'd rather have a Western Digital drive over a Maxtor, but if the price difference is enough I'd happily go with a Maxtor.
