Can't get rid of Bing (Firefox) [Solved]

Thread Starter
Hey!

So I was surfing the Internet the other day, and I wanted to go to a website by typing the name into the address bar. But instead of routing to that site, it gave me the search results from Bing.

I can't set Google as the default search provider when typing something into the address bar anymore. I've tried to change it from about:config, but everything seemed to be set to Google in there.

What am I missing?

you need to change your dns to the google public dns to have google be your default search provider
change your dns servers in your network settings to
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Your dns's settings may have changed from Google to Bing prompting the switch of the automatic search

No, still nothing.

I think this happened after installing silverlight, but I removed it.

  1. Type About:Config in the address bar
  2. In the filter bar, type keyword.URL
  3. Change it to: http://www.google.com/search?&q=

in the top right, on the search bar. What is that set to?

Or does that only affect right-click searches?

That's set to Google and it seems to affect the right-click option.

Meh, I just reinstalled Firefox. Removed all old preferences and deleted any remaining Mozilla folders.

Works great again.
