DFI Lanparty OC Limit ????

Thread Starter
I recently set up a system with the DFI lanparty UT Sli-DR Expert mobo. I decided to overclock it and read the "overclocking guide" posted on overclock.net.

setting up the bios i was running a 5x multiplier and all Ram timings on auto so presumably they were pretty relaxed. The system wouldnt boot above 240 for fsb. when i cranked the multiplier back up to ten it booted but prime95 only ran 4mins with no errors so i dropped it back to 230 where prime95 will run happily for 8hrs+

i have two questions

1) the motherboard fsb limit of 240 seems low, and my bios has a voltage setting for the chipset. would upping this voltage help???

2) i set voltage up to 1.75V at 240 and not much stability. can i up the voltage more for more stability??

gday mate, hooray another Aussie!!! Welcome to the forum You have got your settings very wrong just for a start. You will have to do some more reading or we can go step by step if you like. The 3800 will be hard to overclock nicely and keep cool but you can always get more out of it eventually and keep it stable and cool if you persist. Just for a start set ya multi to 4x and that will get you heading upwards, also put your ram on a divider to slow it down. Two people from Brissie on the same forum!!!

Your challenge will be the x9 multi on the X2 so yes you will need to get the MHz up to help the OC.

The Expert is a bit picky on RAM, so you will need to know if those modules are TCCx and if so, the BIOS needs to be setup really well to run and CPC 2T when getting up around the 280 mark on the memory.

yeah ok at 3.2ghz it kept restarting randomly even tho prime95 ran a good 8hrs doing a blend test. weird.

anyways what do you mean by my settings are wrong ??

i read up on dividers and i get they are basically a step down ratio so the ram will run slower than the actual fsb.

so i'm gonna start that tonight and see how hard i can push the mobo for fsb, anyone want to throw in a bet??? my moneys on 280.

and yeah i have no idea on where i find that about the ram so...

My money is on a hell of a lot higher than 280, try 350 and up if ya lucky. The nf3 will hit 338 stable but 339 is no go for some reason. nf4 is even higher
