CD Duplicator

Thread Starter
What would be the requirements for making a CD Duplicator with 5+ cd-burners?
Would I need a lot of RAM, a fast processor (AMD X2?), etc.?
How would I set up 5+ burners with cables and such?
Could I use linux to cut down on OS costs?

thanks

Please complete your profile under User CP.

There will be a lot of IO traffic so SCSI will be a better option for the drives and also allow for 7 devices per channel.

But what would be important? Do I need a good processor to write data across 5+ CDs, RAM to store the data and send it to the burners? etc.

Apart from the initial read most of the activity is IO which will have small impact on the CPU. So 1Gb of mem will be enough, 80Gb HDD for OS apps and temp CD image Cache. CPU - dual core will help alittle also look at an Intel chip. For the OS, you will need to match this with the HW that you eventually source as drivers maybe an issue for some.

You can buy 7-8 disk dupers for almost nothing these days (if you just go firmware, no HDs or USB connections..)

I think I got my last 6 disk super (7 drives) for like $650 (a Condre)...

Hell, the DVD duper (also Condre with HD) and 7 drives was a little over a grand.
