Craptacular Awesomeness [Needs a name!] (56K warning)

Ok, so at long last, exams are nearly done and I am building my (interim) computer!

Hooray!

Placed the order, I'll pick it up tomorrow. And yes, it is a little different to the sig, some things were not available. HDD, and Monitor are being recycled from an old Dell comp we had lying around.

More detailed posts + pics tomorrow!

I also need a name!

While I've got 30 seconds, I'll just give a short rundown of what is happening...

That build above, along with the 250GB IDE WD drive and the LG 17" LCD I found lying around (no more CRT, ), will turn into this by (hopefully) Jan/Feb next year:

1055T
Gigabyte 890FX UD5
4GB G.Skill RIpjaws 1600MHz 7-7-7-24
Seasonic X-Series 750W
Sapphire 5850
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB
CM Storm Scout
Corsair H50 w/ 2x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm
BenQ E2420 24" LCD
Win7/Ubuntu 10.04
Various peripherals (headset, Razer Deathadder V2, Sidewinder X4 etc)

NB: This build is finalised, no suggestions, please!

Alright, it's built, and I am currently running LinX at a 3GHz overclock (starting small)... Using Everest to monitor, I haven't gone above 40C. It's currently done 26/200 passes. Then I'll put it up to 3.1

Also, when we went to buy the parts yesterday, mum didn't like the idea cause she thought the bookcase was a bit flimsy, so she bought me a CM Storm Scout... it's so awesome!

Just with the TX3 I'm getting 17C idle at stock clocks (2.9), it's a really cool chip (TJMax is 74C)

Now, here be pictures!

The parts

Case

PSU In!

Mobo

RAM in

CPU

CPU Cooler on! I need some more TIM though, used the whole tube (like the idiot I am) and reapplied using the tiny amount i could squeeze out

HDD In

DVDRW in

Cable management? What cable management?

GPU + GPU in

Enjoy! I'll take screenshots (and pics of the finished build) when I find my 24/7 OC (which I expect will be around 3.2GHz). Next purchase is the Seasonic X-Series PSU.

a question, *** are you not using the cable management holes? they are right there in the picture, and they will look so much better and you'll get better temps (not that they can get much better).

BTW, does that room still look exactly the same? It does in one of your pics...

I will, I'm just not too fussed right now cause I'm getting a new PSU in a few months time anyway...

When I get new TIM (in two weeks) I will do basic cable management, promise... also a new keyboard and mouse cause the mouse is faulty

And what? As far as I remember you've never been to my place - I could be wrong...

Yeah, Coretemp said idle was 17C this morning (@2.9)... gotta love Aussie winter... Aussie summer will be a b**ch though

Oh, and OCing is pretty easy, as I've discovered, just played around a bit and suddenly BAM! 3045MHz

LinX is nearly done, 155/200 passes... is 200 passes stable enough? I'm pushing it up by 100MHz each time, then running 3hrs of LinX (200 passes), with everest for temps and task manager for CPU usage.

Haha, 17c winters... Oh, you are lucky, that is our late spring weather

Have you considered modding your scout a little? There's a nice mod you can do to keep mesh covering over your Optical drive while still leaving your drive functional. It looks great when done. It's somewhere on the storm scout club we have on this forum which is located here.

Cool, I'll look around.

Summer is no fun, I'd rather live in a colder clime, but I love Australia far too much to leave.

Ok, so I just click "All" where it says "Memory (MiB):"?

Problem size is 10k... I can't check anything else right now because it is still stress testing...

Much as this system is slow - I love it so much...

Came off a Centrino Duo 1.8GHz laptop with a mobility X1400 and 2GB DDR2 (although I'm typing on said laptop now!)

My upgrade list looks something like this:
PSU + HDD
GPU
CPU + Heatsink
Kb/Mouse/Headset/Speakers
RAM
Everything else

you won't be able to anything bigger than high (or something like that, i don't remember which one) with only 2gb of ram, i still only do 50 runs though, it should be enough for a basic stress test (if it crashes at all its time to reevaluate).

BTW, does the drive stealthing work on the CM 690 II as well moonshadow? If i remember correctly the two cases have many many similarities.

Erm, issues...

My RAM is meant to run at 1333... but i just went to change the CPU freq. (by changing the CPU bus freq.) and my RAM is now at 1467MHz... CPU is at 3190 (no stressing yet)...

CPU Bus is 220
PCIE is 100

Multi is 14.5 (can't go higher)
CPU/NB is 2200 (2000 is default)
Everything else is auto except DRAM, which I had already set to 1333

In the CPU Config screen, I have these options:
GART Error reporting disabled (default)
Microcode Updation enabled (default)
Secure Virtual Machine Mode disabled (default)
Cool 'n' Quiet disabled
ACPI SRAT Table Enabled (default)
C1E configuration Disabled (default)
Advanced Clock Calibration Enabled, All Cores
Unleashing Mode Enabled (?????)
Active CPU Cores [4 Core Operation] (it's a 2 core 2 thread chip, ***??)
Sub menu to above: Value (All Cores) [- 2%] (default)

Any more info needed just ask, I'm here for the next few hours OCing

Would you have enough money for a second stick of ram? That would probably make you system feel a lot faster. I noticed a difference when I went from my old dekstop to my current laptop with 1 extra gig of recognized ram (physically 2gb of extra ram, but xp only recognizes 3gb)

I am not positive but I think you unlocked the other 2 cores on your cpu. I don't think yours is capable of hyperthreading
