Are those prices listed the ones that the end user will see? Or the ones that newegg.com will get them for?

Yes, thanks Nasgul, this is what I had heard but couldn;t find at the time I posted....

All Conroes will keep the current LGA775 packaging designation of the current Pentium D processor; however, there is no indication at this time that users will be able to simply swap a Pentium D 800/900 processor with a Conroe chip. According to sources, mainstream Conroes will post a thermal design power (TDP) of 65 watts, which is half of the maximum power consumption of the Pentium D 800/900. On the high end, that TDP will be exceeded by the variants E6600, E6700 and especially Conroe XE.

Of course, until the things come out, anything could happen. However, the way it looks now brand new boards will be needed.

I suspect the price's listed are rough MSRP, but will be dependent on the supply. I would expect you to see the lowest Conroe on Newegg at about $220-260.

I have no guesses on what the new boards for these chips will cost though

Not sure where you heard that. Intel plans to release all of the Conroes together between late April and early June.

Now paul

They will only be released to manufacturer's (Dell, HP, Gateway, ect) around April and May. The "official" release is still scheduled for Q3. So around July and August we should start to see Conroe's popping up on Newegg and around there you might see a new Dell commercial
