What is the best processor out there. I thought it was the i7-980X but apparently apple has processors with 8 cores

Both Intel and AMD have 8 core chips for workstations/servers. AMD also has 12 core processors on the G34 socket.

There are still faster non-x86 CPUs as well.

Correct, Apple's Mac Pros just use Intel Xeons.

technically its the Xeon counterpart of the 980X. costs up to 6-7 hundred dollars more than a 980x and scores slightly above the 980x.

assuming you mean consumer chips. specialty chips are always faster in their designed applications.

how do you put two processors together?
