Asus Rampage III - 980X - Lian Li PC-A77F Build - Page 6

Well I got the correct EK cooling parts for the XFX HD 5870 Video Cards. Got the stock fans off and all the new parts on.

I ended up using the Triple Bridge, since the Motherboard recommended that I use slots 1 and 3 for a Dual Crossfire setup.

The extra fitting on the bottom of the bridge will be my drain hose.

My EK Water Block did not come with a backing plate, so I didn't have that issue.

Easiest way to solve it would be to get your dremel out and trim the tray. You would have to take everything out of the case to do it, so you don't get any dust into anything.
Is the pic not visible in my original post? Shows up for me, and also in your quote through the embedded link.

So does the EK not have a back-plate? How is it fastened? The Koolance 360 has a thick steel back-plate and also a thick rubber gasket to protect the mobo. The whole assembly is fairly heavy; appears to be a very good design.

I'm more into software dev, and not much of a modder, so don't even own a Dremel kit. Trying the Lian-Li route to get a replacement mobo tray. If no-go, guess I'll have to get a Dremel kit. Which kit would you recommend?

Ironically the stock Intel air fan is not all that bad on the Rampage III, 4.5GHz in an hour of tweaking, stable with Linpack, 38C idle/87C load. It's a really noisy fan though. Still...makes me wonder why I'm bothering with the water.

BTW, I replaced all six stock 800 rpm fans in the A77F with Lian-Li 1200 rpm fans. Makes a world of difference, and still fairly quiet. Figured I should make the additional investment because the stock fans are anemic and I selected the A77F case for airflow in the first place.

Pic is visible now, must have been a problem at my end.

The Backing Plate for the EK is sold separately. I didn't realize that till after I got it. Also by then I had already test fit the board. With the the backing plate, I would also need to trim the tray.

As far as the Dremel, go to home deport and by which every one you like. I got one with a case and lots of accessories. That way all the parts stay together.

I have already ordered all new Apache Black fans for the case. The clear ones with blue leds did not go with my black and red theme.

Here is pic showing the Koolance WB, and the problem.

Attachment 163975

FYI, also recommend Lamptron FAN-ATIC 5-Port Military Switch Baybus and Lamptron FC-3 Limited Edition fan control. They look great with this case.

This is an interesting read. Looks like painting the case black was not too difficult at all. I have plans to order many of the same parts in the future minus the water cooling. My only question is if the side panel fit fine. I have been looking at the side panel for the lian li with 2 140mm slots but it only specifies that it is compatible for the pc a77 and not the a77f. Did your side panel go on just fine? I saw that your side panel specifies the same thing. Also, Nice choice on the 980x and the rampage 3. I have decided to go all out on my next build as well, however I am almost there. I absolutely hate my EVGA board and I need to get rid of it. I figured while I am doing that I might as well ditch the EVGA cards and get a new maxed out Processor while I am at it.

Side panels seemed to fit fine whe I got them. Hoping they will still fit with all the wires there. Also ordered the one side panel with a window.

Here are some pictures of the progress.

Got a few things done. Still waiting for more parts.

Waiting for the Lian Li DVD drive covers for the front, fill and drain ports, and some more fittings.

Still also need to add the LED lights, just not sure where to put them, so I will wait untill everything else is finished

I will be ordering a side panel for mine here soon. Did you test out your side panel with the window to see if it went on yet? Since it does not say that it is specifically compatible with the A77f, I have been hesitating to get it.

The first windowed panel I received was damaged, so I am waiting for a new one. Have not had a chance to try it.

The one I ordered from FrozenCPU should be for that case. Not sure of the model number, I called in my first order with them to make sure all of the parts were compatible.

As I write this, Lian Li does not yet have available a windowed side panel for the A77F. I had to order a custom one from Performance-PCs.com (of course, you have to buy the whole case from them before you get the window). Watch out for side panels sold for the older A77 (no "F")--they won't work. Also, the C-02 bezel does not fit the A77F either.

On the other side panel of the A77F, if you have thick cables, you will have to flatten and spread them out because there just isn't that much room for a cable bundle between the mobo tray and side panel. Very tight fit, stresses the motherboard, and the side panel is hard to get on afterward.
