I wanted to build a new cheap gaming PC, and I was wondering if this motherboard with AMD® Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition would be good. They have it on sell on Microcenter for $100 for the 555BE and the Mobo.
How does this Mobo overclock? I'm not going for maxing Crysis, only need something that can fold and play WoW and SC2 on max.

Well for that price if the MB sucks you an always go buy another one. The one thing that I noticed from my kid's cheap Biostar board (he has a G31 board) is that it doesn't have settings for ram voltage. So that board may not have very many features. But it's practically free. You may not get any crazy OC with it.

Otherwise get on Newegg and buy an Open Box board.

I've just done what you are contemplating. The kicker was the free mobo with the X2555 BE. Put this together:
Biostar A780L Free
Phenom II X2 555 BE 100.00
Zotac 9800GT 65.00 after rebate
Crucial Ballistics DDR2 (1066) cas5 55.00
Forget the onboard graphics, they suck for gaming. The A780L has all the features for O.C. and unlocking all 4 cores from the system BIOS. You get both clock multiplier and FSB frequency controlls along with the core unlocking tools. Very versitile with voltage, etc. Can do the same with system memory. The 9800GT also comes with its own O.C. tool from Zotac.
Although I have not had much time to play, with the stock air cooler all 4 cores will run anything and everything all day at 37C at 3.2 GHz. Dual core operation is best for O.C. as 4 core O.C. is much more modest. 3.6 GHz with no tweeks of voltage for 2 cores thusfar. Using Sisoft Sandra 10, this sub 300.00 system performs at the level of other AMD Phenom II 4 core systems in that mode. The bang for the buck is definately with this system. Totaly outperforms my son's Celeron E3300 dual core for about the same price. This is a great inexpensive system for my purposes as I contemplate a major build.
Good luck with your endeavor,

The board works fine and will play those games. But you definitely need to buy a dedicated graphics card, at least GT240 or HD4670, to play SC2 with decent specifications.

This motherboard sucks for overclocking. I got my Athlon II 250 up to 3.7GHz, but with 1.625 volts? The only options they give you for CPU voltage is are something like +7.5%,+15%, & +23%. +7.5% is already ~1.5Vs. Other voltages options are also only changeable with percent options.

good post but it does have the 3000 graphics and the 710 for unlocking. That is better than what most boards can do in that price range.
