Well reason I"m asking is I did that for my msi board and my vt7, and they both say my ballistix are compatible, but they run like crap on both boards, and as far as the vt7 goes, cokker tried the same ram out and had the same problems.

@ 2.5-2-2-5 w/2.7 should do DDR500 but that would be about the max! Every system is different as are the chips so that a reasonable conclusion but you may have to relax the 2nd 3rd, and 4th values as necessary, perhaps 2.5-3-4-6

I have a question about this board; I hit a stability wall at 2.4G on my Opty 148 2 Gig (that was taking the HTT to 230), has anyone else had this problem, I should be able to get much higher than this with an Opty...

PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi guys, just took delivery of my 64 3700 and Asrock 939Dual Sata. Have connected everything up but it does not boot up...? The first screen loads up stating the hardware etc but then it restarts. I can get into bios.

Question... do i need to reformat my hard drive..? And will my 2 sticks of 512 PC2700 work..?

Thanks in advance!

I think the Motherboard supports all the way down to pc2100. Do you have a SATA harddrive? You will have to install the SATA drivers from the disc provided if you do. You might very well have to reformat your harddrive. I had the same issue with mine and I installed the SATA drivers and I had to reformat my harddrive.

Another thing is to make sure everything is connected well, including those pesky SATA connections that are not so secure. Make sure you memory is installed correctly and fully seated in the sockets.

As far as the bios go stick with what it came with probably version 1.5 right now and upgrade to 1.6 later. Once you get comfortable with this motherboard and want to experiment a little check out THIS thread I created on the Beta Bios.

Edit: Fixed link.

With the Opteron 148 you have a multiplier of 11x. So if you have a HTT of 230 then your processor is actually clocked at 2.53GHz. I am assuming that you are running your memory at a 1:1 divider. It is probably your memory holding you back not your motherboard. Seeing as you have not listed your memory type or grade I am assuming it is generic-type or value-type that will not be able to hit 230MHz. With ASRock Bios 1.3 and newer have the HTT locked at 274. As long as your other hardware is up to the task this is all you will ever need.

Run you memory at 166MHz or similar to take your memory out of the equation. Then see how far you can push your processor without your memory crippling your overclock. Once you have found you max clock speed try to find the best cpu to memory ratio for you by increasing the frequency of your memory.

Download CPU-Z or Computer Brain Identifier (CBId) to monitor your actual overclock of your processor.
