hi i would like to overclock my cpu but after reading your guide and others on the net i am more confused than b4 as i am new to this and do not want to mod my board or update my bios, how far should i take my cpu.

i have a venice 3000 at 1.8ghz and the fan that came with it an asrock dual sata, 1gb ram dual channel 8600gt msi oc, 400W SILVERPOWER SP-400P1B PSU, and an old sblive value cuz onboard realtek is just awful

i am doing this in hopes i can get better performance in games as i have just upgraded to a 8600gt but f.e.a.r still runs sluggish even at low settings

this is cpu z as it is now no overclock
http://download3-8.files-upload.com/...16/19/cpuz.htm

what settings should i change in the bios, i dont know what HT means so just give me the name of the bios setting to make it easier if possible

p.s. dunno is this helps but occ test raised the cpu temp to 42 and stayed there and the case temp to 32

Did you start here?

Overclocking Guide

I'd recommend that first, it was a great help for me. I can't remember right now what the HT divider setting is referred to on the ASRock; I'll check it when I can tonight after work. I do remember that it is not on the same bios page as CPU settings (multiplier, etc.).

EDIT: I forgot to mention (but I'm sure someone will definitely tell you) for you to fill out your system specs under the USER CP on the top menu.

Hey, first off I'd like to thank all of the help in this thread. I've been able to get my 3200 Venice to 2.6ghz stable and will work on it more today, the modded bios link help alot. I'm wondering, if I get the AM2 board for my 939dual-sata2 am I going to have to get new RAM, and will an aftermarket heatsink/fan work with it assuming I brace the heatsink? ( Was looking at getting the ZALMAN 9700 LED 110mm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118019)

Nice job on filling out your specs before posting! And welcome to OCN. I still have my 939 box with the Asrock board that you have and if you get the daughter board (AM2) you'll have to get DDR2 ram for it as well. I also have the Zalman 9700 and would definitely suggest bracing the daughter board if you use it as it is a heavy cooler and it will be mounted vertically.

Do you guys have any insight as how to install the SATAII drivers for the DUAL_SATAII Board?? I d/l them from the website unzip it and run the install.exe like it says to but all I get is a box saying "Install Driver? System will reboot!" Then a small DOS looking box for a sec then nothing. Im having a problem with a SATA hard drive I installed on the board. When I Try to write files to the drive, the whole system freezes up and I have to reboot. This drive is not my boot drive, just a mass storage. I thought trying the drive in the SATA II port might make a difference. Thanks in advance.....

Hi mate

you need to install the original drivers from the cd you got with the MB. If you did not get a cd, go see your vendor. As far as I know, you can't DL the original drivers, although you may like to try the Asrock website.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=939Dual-SATA2

Once you have the original drivers on you can update them. Having said that I think I dl the most recent sound, HDD and CPU drivers and installed them from here.

hope this helps

I have Corsair XMS DDR500 ram, and for some reason my RAM is running at a really low frequency. Here's a CPU-Z screenshot:

Shouldn't that be at 250MHz or greater?

EDIT: Looks like I have "Flexibility Option" enabled, which is clocking down my frequency for some weird reason. But the problem is my RAM is unstable without this option enabled.

Unsure, check the manual, the next version 939 Dual Vsta does not support nVidia according to the manual, so it may be the same with the Dual SATA.
