New System Upgrade: What do you all think?

I am going to have anywhere from $650 to about $1000 by the end of the day Friday. (my birthday, and no I'm not a spoiled brat, most of it I already have) Referencing my specs, do you guys think I have made a good decision for upgrades:

*Note: I am watching 7800GT and GTX prices carefully. I am also watching the release of the G71. I may decide to get a new VGA card.

P5WD2-E Premium $220

Pentium D 920 $260

Patriot eXtreme Performance 1GB DDR2 800 $120

Total Price: $600

I think I am pretty set on these items. My goal is to couple these parts with my watercooling and get around 4.8-5.0Ghz with the 920 (there are many people breaking 5.0 with the 920 on water )

Other Possibilities (Should I have more $$):

7800GT, 7800GTX, or 7900GT (price and performance dependent)
Gibabyte 3D Aurora
Another Gig of the above Memory
74GB or 150GB Raptor (Can you SLI a 74GB and a 150GB Raptor??)
Sunbeam NUUO 550W
LCD Flat Panel 19" 8ms 800:1 Contrast

I am selling my current VGA, processor, memory and here, and motherboard. If I sell my VGA, obiously I am going to use any available money to get a new one.

Thanks for the input!

My suggestions would be:
-P5WD2-Premium 955X $200 and will do the exact same OC as the 975X.
-RAM? Why one single module? PQI Turbo 667 2GB Kit will be as good as DDR2 800, remember the 667 is for 3:5 and 800 for 1:2 but below those ratios, they both would perform the exact same. I'm @ 1:2 and almost see no difference from 3:5.

-Watching the prices drop on G71 ah? In April Intel will drop prices on Preslers also.
-I'd like to see if you have a link of people breaking the 5.0ghz barrier with a 920 on water, so far I myself have not seen one but I'm not saying it is impossible, just wondering where is one.

-GIGABYTE case? It's a nice case for water cooling, if not the best.
-Really, get the PQI Turbo 2GB kit, excellent for its value and overclocks sky-high.
-Sunbeam NUUO? ah, I have my doubts but maybe it'll work.
-LCD, seems good, excellent contrast ratio.

I want 1:1 ratio for FSB to Memory. The 667 will only allow for a OC of 4.67Ghz at 1:1. The DDR2-800 will allow me to reach my goal of 4.9Ghz (350Mhz FSB) and keep the RAM 1:1. I will always be able to add another stick of RAM. Also the DDR2-800 is a good choice for a future Conroe build. I was originally planning on 2 of these, but we had a discussion here, and the concension was DDR2-800 will help my OC goal.

It is still up for discussion though, I am by no means a memory expert!

Cool a 1:1 ratio 300fsb+. But for a 1:1 ratio DDR2 800 would just run at DDR2 400 speeds, that's why you have the devider being equal.

Even so, the PQI Turbos 667 can do a 400mhz 1:1 ratio, SEE LINK HERE. So you could be doing 400x14 (5.6ghz), but if you're planning on a 4.9ghz out of the 920 you'd be in the 1.6v or even max at 1.7v. And for a 24/7 operation that's not recommended IMO, planning on a 1.6Vc for 24/7? or just benching?

People are getting 4.0Ghz on stock voltage.

Anyways, I decided to get the P5WD2-E Premium and a EVGA 7800GTX (I will step up to a 7900GTX in a week or two). I will be able to take my P4 550 to about 4.4Ghz with my DDR2-533 I supose. That will sufice until I save enough for a 920 and better RAM.

I played around with the setup a little:

Pentium D 930 $330
ASUS P5WD2-E Premium $225
And 7900GT $350

Total: ~$905

No offense, but you have a decent rig going for you right now....I wouldn't spend much until the Pentium D's drop in price. The only sensible thing to upgrade in your PC right now would be the VGA; If I were you I would get the cheapest 7800gt, and save the rest of the money for intels new chips.

heh heh

I guess I got YOU excited about the 920 huh?

I still haven't been able to get it stable at that speed, but I also haven't had much time. I want to see what my max stable air OC is before I go to water.

That does look like a good build, but I have to agree......it might be wise to wait until Conroe hits and see where prices go. Everything I have seen points to Conroe coming out close in price to the 9xx series NOW, and the 9xx going down.

With that info, you MAY be able to build a Conroe for the same price! Or at least save some cash on the 9xx system.

Just something to weigh.

I dont think anyone is getting past 4.0 with stock voltage(I havent seen one anyway) An I think you are aiming a little to high for an overclock, if I can pull 4.1 out of my system with some tall Vcore and some kick ass water cooling Id think you could at least hit 300FSB but still I just think you might be aiming to high and might be disapointed, I only say this because the top few 920 certified clocks are just a tad bit higher then you are looking for. I think Ill be getting another 920 soon and actualy put it in the PC.
