OK crew be nice back to the point, is there a member maybe I could PM that has a crossfire rig running. Is 512mb mandatory for the next year or two of gaming, will 256mb be obsolete with in 6 months. Too many options here. I need a beer

I aint to bothered about benchmarks mate tbh just games

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=310 and thats against the 256 7800 bang for buck you can see where I am coming from

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=64380 - pretty even cross the board I would say, crossfire is hardly mary poppins material is it, granted neither is SLI but ATI played their card with the X1900 series we still aint seen the 7900 series.

No it wont be obsolete but its not future proof either (sayin that what is?) In all honesty Mate you have seen or heard the differences and arguments for both but as in my first post everyone has preference, if your goin Nvidia the 7800GTX 512 is the mutz nutz ATI the X1900XT but if you can wait a couple of months to see what the 7900GTX brings as its the X1900's true rival.

Best of Luck

My post about the ability to run sli on a non-sli board with the right chipset (yours included).

I've had sli for a year and a half and was on the bandwagon since the beginning. If you read reputable sites like Tom's, HardOcp and Anandtech, they have shown that SLI is a stable, mature technology that continues to improve. ATI, on the other hand has finally got crossfire working (The refererence to the new RD580 chipset above is valid, its supposed to be excellent). But if you read through the various reviews, they constantly go back to crossfire being new technology. It might as of today edge verys lightly in some categories over SLI but its still so new that there are bound to be issues. I don't have time to get wait to get the bugs ironed out. I'm busy enough in life that sitting down and using my pc should be seamless. Will ATI get there? Absolutely, but give them a year or so to stabilize the technology.

Go Nvidia today, on your next upgrade, evaluate your options
SLI still has problems, look at the performance against 1 identical card. IMO, doubling the cost by buying 2 cards should results in across the board improvements and they should be substantial. I don't suggest SLI or Crossfire unless 1 of the fastest cards out simply isn't enough for you.

I suggest you see the chipset link in my signature. Nearly all the new Xpress 3200 news is there, with every publication loving the board and getting either high or the highest house overclocks ever.
My opinion, along with that of many others, is in that thread, I suggest you look it over.

SCCR, your opinions on crossfire/SLI are well known. That said, those who have implemented an SLI solution so far (myself included) have had really favourable results. I expect the crossfire experience to improve fairly quickly as well. It would be interesting to poll the overclock members as to their sli rigs and see how many actually regret getting a second card. That result would give a "hands on" versus speculation opinion, wouldn't it?

Let's give it a try, shall we?

or, you could go for the x1950xtx with 96 pixel shaders... anyone know when that ones coming out? Thought it would be any time now.

Only problem with that is you'll have several simply trying to justify their spending.

And lets hope the majority, (more than several) will be honest. Your cynicism really is inapplicable. Have you tried SLI or crossfire personally? I'm curious because I've read enough of your posts to know your opinion pretty well. I'm not saying that you aren't entitled, but its been my experience (and I've had quite a bit in the computer industry) that reviews only tell you so much. Not only that, the vast majority of reviews have endorsed SLI, particularly those from sites you quote like Anandtech and Tom's.

Personally, I'd go with a single card as it's less stress on your psu and less hassle to setup.

To setup Crossfire, you need a mastercard that is more expensive than a current card and a normal card to make this work. People have got the x1600 series to work with 2 normal cards, so I think it's a driver issue more than hardware. This will probably be cracked soon to allow you to use 2 normal cards in Crossfire on any motherboard, even nvidia chipsets. Depends if you want the hassle of trying to make this work or to just go with a single card.

Where can I get the patch for the ultra-d? And how can I flash from windows? Evrytime i d/l a new bios it needs to be put on floppy which i dont have?
