HELP, I'm having major trouble.

Thread Starter
I have a bfg 7800 gt video card.

and a dfi lan party ut nf4 ultra-d
http://us.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_prod...YPE=LP&SITE=US

Ive been having trouble recently with my temperatures. When playing games on full video settings and resolutions (aa, af 1280 1024) My computer randomly shuts down. The shut down is very quick and I dont see any video artifacts before It crashes.

When I'm at full load in a game, my temps run above 63 degrees on the video card, and the northbridge isnt far behind with temps in the 50s
When I check the bios, the NB fan is running at 4800-5000 rpms and the cpu is running much much lower.

I'm almost positive the northbridge is overheating, on the fact that my video card is nearly smothering the northbridge fan. Is this possible? Does or has anyone else had this problem? And is there any way to fix it?

p.s. I've tried to cool the northbridge by adding some fans in the general area of the fan, but it hasnt worked enough.

Please fill out your specs in the User CP. It will be easier to help you.

Those temps aren't bad enough to cause a shutdown.

I have the LP nF4 and yes it covers the NB fan, but I haven't had any problems at all with temps.

Couple of questions,

1 are you OCing your system and if so what speeds.

2 are you OCing your Video Card and if so what speeds.

Again, filling out the specs in the user cp will have this info available to see.

When your system reboots does it give you an error message?

If it gives you an error message saying maybe there was a serious error chances are it was the videocard. Or it could be your RAM

If not than it could either be your processor or Harddrive. Generally when your processor fails windows doesnt have enough time to log the error.

Have you OC'ed any of your Hardware? Have you added any new hardware?

Editted my pc specs, and Ill give you guys some info.

When my computer reboots, its very fast, no windows pop up, and no error messages at all, the screen just goes black instantly and I see the nforce4 dfi logo.(I'm not sure if there is any other way to check for errors)

I used speedfan 4.25 and the nvidia console to get those temps, but I just downloaded mbm5 to see if it gives me different temps. You guys said that temps of 62-65 arent high enough to cause a reboot, then maybe it is something else.

My psu is a generic "Nspire" 550w psu with two 12v rails, It says the combined rails add to 36A. It wasnt a very expensive psu, it only cost me 80 bucks.

@enzo Where would you like me to check for gaps, Ive already checked the video cards memory and chipset, but I havent checked the northbridge yet.

^^^EDIT
Checked my AIDA32 stats.
Picture follows.

Also, When I checked the AIDA32 stats, I did the memory read and write tests. The results from these tests places my computer very low down the list in computer power. Pictures follow.

I'm almost positive these numbers are much to low for my systems actual power levels. Any ideas?

Whats the most recent thing that you have added to your PC? Is your CPU running at stock speeds? Have you changed anything in your Bios? When did this start happening? Does this happen when you do certain tasks or does it just happen at random? If it happens at random does it happen when its idle or does it happen when its under load of any sort, this could mean opening internet explorer, video editing, gaming, making your coffie anything.

If its a specific task chances are its your hard drive

If its anything under load that means chances are its your CPU

You said you ran mem tests so that should be good.

Temps are more than a bit high! If the reported temps are a little low you are at worrysome temps!
I would highly recommend a better FSH to cool the CPU and get AS5 compound.
70°c is the peak if the 10th didget is a "P" ... 63°c if it's an "I" ... should be a P on the 3700+ Sandy
Also, the PS... check the voltages!

So a CPU temp of 54 is too high for at full load? And Im not sure how to check my voltages. It says my +12V is at 11.71, all my other voltages are close as well (5 is 4.97 3.3 is 3.26) except my +2.5V is a bit off. It says +2.5 is 1.17?? Is this bad?

If my cpu load temp of 55 is too high, I might need to remove the stock air cooling and switch to a volcano+zalmans or water cooling.

@GREATNESS MY cpu crashes randomly, usually when I am running Guild Wars and maybe one or two other windows. My computer hasnt rebooted once yet today 3/6/06, and Im hoping for the best.
