Help! $1500-1800$ I need a gaming rig! IDK where to start.

Thread Starter
I ask of thou my gaming overclocking hot pocket carnavor brothers. Please help me. I have 1500-1800$ and I want to get the best bang for the buck. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I cry to you. Should I wait for something newer cheaper to come out or invest in something today. I want a pc that can last me for at least 3 years. So problably something like SLI or something. Post anything you got and I will be greatly in your debt.
Guild me from beginning to end on only what parts I should get for my kick butt rig. I hope this thread will be a guide for others who seek this answer.

There was actually a thread started today similar to the question you have. Hope this helps a little and gives you a start. You'll have a little more money to play with and depending on your needs, 1800 makes for a great system!

P5WD2-E Premium $220
Pentium D 920 (great ocer) $260
2x Patriot eXtreme 1GB DDR2 800 $240
Gigabyte 3D Aurora $150
Sunbeam NUUO $85
150 GB Raptor $280
Sony DVD-Drive $40
EVGA 7800GTX $434
Big Typoon $52

Total: $1750 + shipping

The Pentium D 920 (2.8Ghz) can easily get 4.0Ghz on air with that mobo and RAM. (Thats an FX60!). The RAM can be set to DDR2-667 and then the timing can be put at 3-3-3-6. That will be a mad fast system, and you can do EVGA step up from the 7800GTX to a 7900GTX for like $50....

This will score 6-10k in 3dmark06
Sorry, didn't realize we were in an AMD section. But that system still rocks!

Here is what I recommend if you have to buy now.
CPU: 4400+ $460
MOBO: Asus A8R32 ~$275

GPU: X1900XT $450
PSU: OCZ Powerstream 520 $130

Here is the problem...waiting will become a never ending cycle. The simple truth is that there is ALWAYS something new on the horizon. You just need to decide what you will be really using the system for and build it to suit that use. If gaming is really the focus, SLI will be the way to go but do NOT invest in dual cards now IMHO. Get the best GPU you can but only one and use the extra $500 to help with other things...like a high quality LCD, excellent 5.1 speakers, extra RAM (you will want to go with 2GB) or a CPU that is a couple increments higher. That's my
