Hey guys - I hope this is not here somewhere and I missed it. I tried a search first.

I have a 9800pro, and Belarc, Sandra, everything tells me it is 9800pro.
so.... why is the default in ati tool set at 324/290? these are more like non-pro specs arent they?

thanks

Yes as above overclock it in ATI TOOL.

As for the reported readings it happens sometimes like that core version does not match the stamped model on the core. Only way to check is get that heatsink off. Also what are the inscriptions on the memory modules.

cheers

I hope my Zalman 700AlCu comes today - if it does, I will get back to you on all that info. I don't have any Thermal paste right now, so I don't want to remove it until the zalman comes (I got paste too). Oh, if this helps (and it probably just means I got the crappiest version available) this came in a dell 8300

dell psu is 250 watt, this is the 2nd 9800pro in it (first one crapped out) it is now out of warranty and I am looking to switch to a build, but I have no money
know anyone trying to get rid of an older case that is great with cooling for cheap?

thanks guys, will get back to you

250 watt!!!! no wonder you got issues. If you're jus looking for cheap and cheerful I'd get a bog standard case with 350w psu minimum. I cant speak about US prices but you should be able to find something on ebay thats perfectly adequate. If you can get something with a 120mm fan on the exhaust that'd be a start.

Thermaltake Swing is a cheap case that is performing well for me on cooling. I've put an extra 120mm fan in the front but it comes with a 120mm in the rear. Only downside is it doesnt come with psu, at least not in the UK anyway.

yeah, I know
now that the warranty is up I am replacing with the Ultra X-connect 500w that I have. It means cutting the back panel of the case, but now that warranty is up I dont care. Looking for a new case anyway - I looked at the swing, I think I may go with it - though I REALLY like the NZXT nemesis (3 120mm fans). Lot of money for me to do right now - looks like I cut the Dell case for now.

will get back with the ati numbers if ever the zalman shows up!

Hey guys,

thanks for the help before - now there are other issues.
First - seems I have a R350 Core
Memory says Samsung 319 (lots of other numbers too)

I installed the VF700-AlCu, and booted _____AAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Lines and squiglies and everything all over so I couldn't even see!

Shut down, re-seated the HSf. I set up the system open - with the new ultra 500watt PSU. Now it works fine. I am scared to try the old PSU, but the new one does not fit my case

Anyway - any reason my computer is now slower?
And this is not by benchmark or anything...It is NOTICEABLY slower at everything except it booted very fast - wierd.
I hope someone knows what is going on.

oh yeah, I was able to run at 385/342 with no problem (something I could not come close to before)

thanks guys
