I'm considering to sell my X58A-UD3R and buy a dual CPU motherboard to run 2 X5650. I intend to build a computer for video processing, I have no idea that how fast can dual X5650s be compare to single X5650? I'm using Davinci Resolve 12.

They directly compare them to my x5680s. Doing the math, the x5680s yields 0.42 points per 1core Ghz, and the 2670s yield 0.52... thats 24% faster! But in the end my x5680s would be 7% slower... I kind of wanted more speed for 8core cpus... but well theyre pretty cheap

Not all the 2670's on ebay are v1. The one I purchased is v2.

I mean the really cheap ones that are popping up, less than $100. IF you have a 2670V2 for less than that please share smile.gif!

Are you sure the software you use is able to utilize many cores/threads? In many cases software has limited support, example is Adobe which is generally considered having excellent support:

Lightroom

Photoshop

Premiere

As can be seen beyond 8 cores (and sometimes 4) there is no gain.

This does not mean your particular software and workflow will not gain but it just shows it is not simply more bang with more cores.

I'm hunting ebay for some cheap dual 1366 socket mobos, to put my L5640s to use again. I've come across several branded mobos which I've read some of them use propietary PSU pinouts so I'll try to avoid them...

I came across this half width option:

Z8PH-D12/IFB

I had a mobo of that same generation (Z8PE-D8) which used standard PSU, but this one says needs DUAL 20-pin power connectors. Any idea if I just can split a standard ATX PSU cable into two and use it?

TBH HW-E is not that much faster than SB-E.

It's this sort of mobo that has proprietary psu pinouts ... You could but you have to search for them which isn't exactly easy since these came out of asus server boxes.
and they're very long too. It's more than twice the length of a itx board.

Looking to pick up a Xeon E5 (SB-E) series for my test-bench (Rampage IV Extreme) and would like to know whether the E5 2680 is worth the almost $100 more difference than the E5 2670. I would eventually like to get a E5 V2 8core/16t series when the prices come down but from what I hear a very limited BCLK can be achieved on LGA2011 Xeons and they might or might not post.

Also will I have any difficulty getting the Rampage IV Extreme to post with the E5 2670/2680? The V2 versions are on the supported CPU list but nothing about the V1 SB-EP Xeons.

$100 difference is not worth it. I mean if the chips were $900 and $1000, then it might be worth it.

But from $70 to $170, no.

You won't have any issue posting/ booting with a 2670 or 80 on the RIVE. Just make sure you have a later bios installed.

Hey guys, mind if I join the club? :]

Unfotunately mines haswell so I dont have much option to overclock but I do have mine at max turbo on all cores and a slightly bumped Bclk

I enjoy it so far though i really miss the ability to overclock like my old FX 8120, will run this till i feel i need a little more horsepower then move to a 4790k till my upgrade time rolls around a few years from now. Works perfectly well for all my purposes and was a good 50-75$ cheaper than a 4770k when i first got it and really had to budget and get the best I could.
