New i7 Build

Thread Starter
My sig rig recently passed away, so what better time to upgrade right? I figure I can re-use the case I already have for now (I want the Corsair Obsidian Series 800D bad though just to rich for my blood atm), and I have 2 24" widescreens already so i'm good in that department. Heres what i'm thinking. Please give input or suggestions. I'd like to keep this below $1500 as much as possible, without having to settle for lower quality parts.

Computer will be used for Gaming, web browsing/multi-tasking, HD video editing, general tasks. In that order.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188049
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130551
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231304
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371022 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 ??
Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

Thats it for now. The rest i'll scrap from my old PC, and I will probably keep using Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Total for above comes to $1,359.90 with free shipping. Let me know what you think, and any suggestions you might have.

Solid build for the most part

I would ask yourself if in the future SLI is an option

if so I would tweak the PS selection to accomidate this. If SLI is a definative never I would roll with the Corsair selection

OCZ Vertex 2 50GB boot drive will add a lot of preformance and I highly recomend

then a WD Black for data and programs in desired size, Sammy is fine as well

Are you near a Micro center, or know anyone that is .... 930's can be had for 199 there

That 100 dollars can rollinto your SSD and if you bargain hunt you may be able to make up the rest but SSD preformance can not be ignored in any new build IMO

with out it it just falls short of the mark

Thanks for the replies. Well, I think my budget went out of the window lol. Don't you hate that? You only want to do a little bit and it turns into a whole new beast? Well heres my updated parts list. They will be here this week, coming from different retailers so it will be spread throughout the week.

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 480
Mobo: EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 X58
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 60GB
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaw 6GB DDR3
PSU: CORSAIR 850W
Case: CORSAIR Obsidian 800D
OS: Vista 64bit

I think my next upgrade will be a water cooling loop and a new desk. And maybe a new keyboard.

Heres it is finally. Still a big work in progress. Still need to sleeve the cables and do some more management, add a little more touches of light in the bottom, and connect the rest of the fans. Also need to add a fan to the radiator on the back (Will be a white finned fan). But here it is for now, at least its finally alive and running. Only thing i'm not happy about are the blue ripjaw heatsinks on the memory. Way to bright blue, and will clash with what i'm eventually trying to do. Eh, i'll figure something out...or replace them.

Heres a close up of the GTX 480 with backplate and high flow bracket.
