Worth the extra?

I originally planned on buying the sapphire x850xt for performance/price but i was wondering if the 7800gt is worth the extra 100 dollars. i want to build my comp as soon as possible so i dont know if i'll wait for the 7800's price to drop. Is it worth the extra 100???

YES definetly.. the 7800GT is the best bang for the buck card today. Awesome performance, i heard it runs all games 1280*1024, max settings, butter smooth i would really go for that one instead of the x850xt which doesnt even have SM3.

Should i just get the x850xt and have that hold me up till next year then buy a dx10 card? Or should i just get a 7800gt now and just sli one around christmas?

Even though the X850XT doesnt have SM3 its still like a very powerfull card to have ..IMO it matches the 7800GT

On THG:
FEAR w/softshadows @ 1600x1200x32, the 7800GT gets 20fps, X850XT PE failed.
3DMark05 @ 1600x1200x32, X850XT PE gets 3256 3DMarks, 7800GT gets 4276.

Personally I would just save the $100 and get the X850XT for now and like you said..wait for dx10

The X850XT is still a pretty good card even without the SM3 and other peaks of the 7800GT.

IMO, go with the 7800. But, I also don't know if you would want to go SLI. It might've been on here or some other site that I read that SLI is a last resort for upgrades. Meaning, if you have upgraded everything you can and you still have the extra dough, go for it. Although, I do have a friend running W.o.W. with an x850 flawlessly. Now of course, that isn't exactly F.E.A.R. or CoD2.
From my research at Newegg.com the x850xt seems to have a core clock of 520 MHz and a memory clock of 1080 MHz. While the 7800GT has a core clock ranging from 400-470 MHz and a memory clock ranging from 1000 MHz-1100 MHz. You make the call. I would go with the 7800GT though because of the such wonderful things of heard from it.
