First Conroe Die Shot

While the diagram is very low resolution, it shows that Conroe is definitely slated to run on the Intel 975X family of chipsets. The chipset itself supports DDR-2 memory, one PCIe 16x or twin 8x slots and will remain as Intel's flagship through a good part of this year. L2 cache makes up a significant portion of Conroe's silicon space.

Looks to me like they are pretty much finished with Conroe, now they just have to mass-produce it. A April release may not be un-realistic!

Now that it is clear that they will work with 975X, I will go and get my P5WD2-E without any worries.

I remember when i865pe came out before Prescott. It was said that i865pe would support Prescott and it did. However, many boards even with BIOS updates did not work with Prescott.

The ones that did work with Prescott did not work as well as the 9xx series with lga775 form factors. There were voltage issues.

I hope that you do not fall into the same problem here.

I agree with Ropey, I wouldn't run out and buy anything until it's shown that the Conroe's work with certain boards and chipsets.
