Nvidia GTX 470 question

Thread Starter
Well okay I got my new system put together and sadly the onboard isn't as great as people make it out to be ..(ATI 4290) It lagged on L4D2 so, I'm looking to purchase a GTX 470. But my question is:

Couldn't I just buy this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130550

And overclock it to where this one is at and save the extra money?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130549

Does the 2nd card come with better cooling?

Yes you can, and no it doesn't. They should be identical except for things you can change yourself

Can EVGA tell if someone has overclocked the GPU and I'm sure that takes away the lifetime warranty?

Don't EVER buy SuperClocked versions of any GPU.

Most people claim that SC versions are higher binned chips, but that's a bunch of crap.

In my experience, i've had SC versions and non-SC versions of cards, and 99.9% of the time, the vanilla cards overclocked better or as well as the SC versions, and were much cheaper.

Get the vanilla card, and I *pretty much* guarantee that it'll match what the SC version is clocked to without any voltage tweaking, all the while saving you some money

And no, EVGA doesn't care and can't tell if you OC'd your GPU, and you don't have to tell them. In fact, they encourage overclocking. The only thing that will void your warranty is removal of the serial number stickers and actual, physical damage to your card(s) that you yourself inflicted or caused and were not hardware defects. You can even put waterblocks on the card without voiding the warranty, provided that you put the stock housing/cooling back on for RMA purposes.

Cool.
Vanilla = plain, or stock, card/component, as opposed to jazzed up versions of the card like the aforementioned "SuperClocked" edition.

I have both a Vanilla and a SC card in my rig and the Vanilla actually has a lower VID and clocks better.... so pretty much everyone here is correct. However... the EVGA SC card that ends in 75 vs 72 comes with a backplate and high flow bracket. (although you can now get high flow brackets for 5 bux from EVGA directly with purchase of any card)

Same card. Get the normal version, overclock, apply a more active fan profile, profit.

the only time i would get a superclocked is when they have been out for a while and so many people buy superclock thinking there really good that the price goes down because of good sales. i once bought a 9800gtx+ ssc because it was £20 cheaper than a stock
