9 ops/clock

But you can't compare the two because:

Conroe will also feature a new 128-bit SSE optimization that will allow all SSE instructions to be completed in a single cycle.

Core architecture has four issue execution with a fourteen stage pipeline.

Core architecture will have micro-ops fusion (already present on all modern Intel processors), but that the new architecture will also include macro-ops fusion. Essentially, macro-ops fusion takes multiple high level instructions, and combines them into a single instruction. For example a “compare†and “jump†instruction can be combined into a single operation.

All CPU's are OC-able.... one they send out samples to everyone, then we will see how good they overclock

The Conroe OC will most likely be similiar to an AMD OC. You will see 200-600Mhz overclocks. The days of the 1+Ghz OC is dead with the P4. But, the effect will be the same as a 1+Ghz OC.

I'm still going to wait and see what AMD has to offer with the new 65nm cores.

I would hope that a newer 65nm core with DDR2 would beat out a 90nm Core with DDR

There's no reason to compare old technology to new technology becasue it's a simple fact it will win

but for a $450 chip that's incredible

Presler didn't beat the old AMD's (at stock speeds)

While we're still comparing to Socket-939 and only using RD480, it does seem very unlikely that AMD would be able to make up this much of a deficit with Socket-AM2 and RD580. Especially looking at titles like F.E.A.R. where Conroe's performance advantage averages over 40%, it looks like Intel's confidence has been well placed.

Dont you think that is why they chose the X2 2.8ghz, and put it up against the entry level 2.66 conroe? If they wanted to they could have brought out the 3ghz XE I think the test was right on. Besides This new tech will be competing with AMDs old tech. You cant break any bench marks with Chips that are still on paper "AM2". On another note. I would expect AMD to be abe to push into the 3ghz realm with 65nm. Lets hope for some good competition.
