I have a set of Geil 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 2T and i've downclocked it to 1488mhz 8-8-8-24 1T. Anyone know good settings i can try without increasing voltage to improve on?
I just did some testing with IntelBurn on 2T vs. 1T for my settings and I found that 1T gave a sharp improvement in performance at the same 6-8-6-20 timings (About 20% better). Try 7-8-7-24, 7-7-7-21 or lower (i.e. 6-8-6-24), keep it 1T when and if you can.
I'm going to have to run those tests again soon and post an article on it someday.
Try the 7-8-7 24 1T and then try 7-7-7 21 1T. If you're still going strong, drop it to 20 and then 18. Then try to get your CAS down to 6. If you're still going, you have a great memory kit and try to push 6-7-6 18 1T.
I can't get that and my memory will do 8-8-8 24 1T at 2000MHz. I usually run it at 7-7-7 20 1T around 1750MHz.

Actually, dropping the fourth two-digit value (tRAS) doesn't actually make a huge difference most of the time
but it's usually better to have that value so that it is the sum of the first 3 values (ie. CL+tRCD+tRP or 7+7+7=21).
There's also the tRC which you should try to get as low as possible; I get a ~2 second or 1.5GFLOP difference in speed/computing power running IntelBurn at 6-8-6-20-24 vs. 6-8-6-20-30.
Having the tRC at 24 may cause problems. Generally tRC = tRAS + tRP. In that case it should probably be set at 32. It might cause instability being set so low.
Not faster at 32. Just more stable. I guess if 27 is working then maybe you should just leave it there for now. If you crash then raise it up. If not then you are probably good to go. I'm not sure if there will be any performance benefit from having it at 27. You could test.
actually i put it on 32 from 24 and doing memory benchs in everest get improvement in write/read/. thanks + rep. Also want to get timings to 7-7-7-21 from 8-8-8-24 how much extra voltage should i try add to achive that and how much is safe for my geil 1600mhz (rated at 9-9-9-28 stock) 1.5v.
I find 24 is much faster than 26 for me, and there's not much difference in stability.
Only add as much extra voltage as you need; prove it with things like stress testing.
