Tbh I'm not about to go out and buy/dl a new OS just for benching. Right now it's a new hobby activity essentially and I spend far more time gaming and doing design work on my rig in comparison. I have stripped down 32 and 64 bit versions of XP that I'm quite happy to keep using as they run smooth for me and I know just how to tweak them to keep me content (a new OS would mean re-learning quite a few things and I don't have enough time on my hands for that)

I go for honest benchmarks too, that reflect the day to day use of my system. Since I'm not an enthusiast bencher, I see no sense in benching in an OS that I don't ever use for anything other than benching, just to get a better score If I'm gonna bench, I'm gonna do it with the stuff I use all the time. It's a better representation of what my system is capable of doing, as opposed to a suicide run which shows what I wish my computer could do daily lol.

This is merely my opinion though and being new to the benching thing, I don't take it too seriously at this stage. It's really just a bit of fun for me right now.

I've found his results to be extremely close to the differences that I see. That is, unless your stripped vista just sucks(even an unstripped vista is still faster than XP)
Be nice to see a similar article with nvidia gpu, the scores I see when comparing xp, vista & 7 in 3d are far different. 7 & xp can be close in some, but vista just couldn't keep up.
Might just be me though, I always thought vista just plain sucked from the first time I tried it.

I would go for 2x 5770's ... Asus Cu's. They look to be the same PCB rev as the PG1 MSI.. [which I have] easy to cap if you want to run higher core speeds..on water I run mine @ 1.1ghz core. OCP starts to climb quickly with speeds +1050mhz..

*and too many issues with bad 5850's...

Spec may be selling a couple 'O' msi hawks soon which looked quite good.

How about the pny 465's that unlock? How about the all important psu?

Well it's pretty much a guaranteed unlock and it's definitely cheaper AND it's faster most of the time http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...s-cypress.html + it's single gpu which is a bonus ( no micro stutter no headaches etc )

The 470 in specs review is a pny 465
