Hey everyone. Just bought some new stuff for a friends puter and was wondering how you guys think it would perform. Here are his specs.
Biostar Tforce 6100 939, eVGA GeForce 6800 XT / 128MB DDR PCI e, 1 GB corsair XMS Pro 3200, 1 GB K-byte pc 3200, 200 GB maxtor, Sound Blaster Audigy 4, 350w antec ps, HP case w 2 fans, AMD 3700+ socket 939. Is it going to perform better or comparable to my current rig? We are hoping so.

It depends on the apps you are running. More CPU dependent ones should be better on the new rig, games should play a bit better on yours though as your GFX card is a GT over an XT. No major difference though

if you just bought that stuff.... then why do you have mismatched RAM? Also, I think he'll really want a better psu... 350w would be cutting it pretty close! and u should get him the 6800GS instead of the XT if you can

but yeah, I agree w/ ste about the performance

Yeah, mis-matched RAM is just asking for trouble. Also, that PSU is going to be incredibly strained if it even works. I would also get a 6800GS unstead of the XT.

Read ^. If the 3700 is a socket 939 (venice core) it won't have a problem with ram, if not it will.

Slo down guys!!! I build my own puters, he bought his built. This is not my stuff. He bought a HP pavilion from Best Buy and thats why the mismatched ram. The k byte was what it came with. It originally came with a 300w PSU and the only spare I had was a 350w from an antec case I dont use. Im not payin for his stuff so I have to work with what he can afford. Hey, at least I convinced him to buy a vid card and a new mobo. Really that thing sucked for being new. 1200 3D marks on 03. OUCH. Could barely handle solitare!!!!! JK. Bottom line is Im tryin VERY HARD to help him build his own rig but cash is an issue for him at the moment and I only have so many spare this and spare that. This is his first machine and he is learning the hard way. For 680 dollars that he spend originally on the rig, I could have built him one twice better, everyone agree? Hell the XMS pro ram is also mine but I am generous. What can I say. Boy do I love to built these machined from scratch!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps. sorry for the misunderstanding, I just reread my original message and I see the confusion. I just bought the mobo and the card
