waves across my screen!

Thread Starter
Hey guys, recently I have been noticing "ripples" moving from the bottom of my screen to the top, its like an old CRT monitor... but my monitor is an LCD.

It happens more frequently (quicker) when I overclock it. But reverting it back to stock settings still has it. Most noticeable when the screen is black.

Does anyone know the reason for this and how to fix it? Or is my gpu just borked?

Might be the liquid inside the LCD display doing things...... doesn't sound good though. Are you using DVI, VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort or what to connect GPU > Monitor?

I seem to have solved the issue, by enabling vertical sync! Will post back if it happens again!

Oh wow that was seriously your first encounter of tearing? You shouldn't notice it normally on general desktop use, mainly in games when your FPS goes higher than your refresh rate or a lot lower, I always keep mine off because I prefer performance over look, and Vsync on both ATI and Nvidia, causes mouse lag on most of the games I play.

ohh so this is refered to as tearing? Is there a way to eliminate this without enabling Vsync?

Downgrade your card to something that gives you an average of 60fps.

I'll give you my 8800 GT in exchange for the HD 5850. It'll remove any tearing ever. It also comes with a decent cooler.
