AMD 3200 OCing help please

Thread Starter
hey im new to the forum, great site you guys have. lot of helpfull post and tutorials. im trying to overclock my cpu here is my rig

AMD athlon 3200 64bit
bfg nforce 4 ultra
2x512 ddr 2700 333mhz
ati x700 256mb (overclocked)
WD 250gb 7200rpm
350watt power supply
good air flow

im a noob to OCing but i have some computer knowledge. ive went over the Ultimate Overclocking Guide on this site and i have a couple of questions.

1 is there a more basic, easier guide? i get kinda lost in the part that it talks about the FSB only running at the max speeds of the ram.

2 does anybody see a problem with my rig that i wont get a good OCing results?( i see ppl getting 2.6ghz with the amd3200, id be happy with anything above 2.4ghz)

3 i read that i could damage my HD and lose data. does that happen a lot? (i could live with frying my CPU and buying a new one but there is no way in hell i want to lose data on my HD)

thanx a lot guys

What brand is your PSU and more importantly how many amps does it have on the 12v rail?

What kinda of ram is it? As in exactly what type so we can know if thats gonna be the main thing holding you back.
About the harddrive losing data, you dont usually lost data if everything is set properly but there is always a slight chance that you will lose it although it has never happened to me.

Hey and welcome to the forum. First, lets start with the basics.
1. Please fill in your user CP so you dont have to keep posting your system specs
2. I dont think there is an easier guide, but everything comes with experience so just keep asking questions, someone is always willing to help
3. Do you have any specific questions as of now?
4. You will want to download CPU-Z as it is helpful in showing details in your system

ive downloaded a lot of programs that lots of giudes suggest like prime95, cpu-z, mbm5 and a couple more. i got one question
the guide says this:

"But because you’re also overclocking your motherboard and memory, these components can limit your max FSB. Your motherboard may be able to run at 220mhz FSB, but if your memory can only run at 200mhz, then that’s where you’re FSB overclock is going to have to stop (unless you buy better RAM)."

question is that my ram "PC2700 = DDR333 = 166MHz actual FSB" does that mean i can only run my FSB up to 166mhz?

No, this means that your motherboard is being limited by the memory and not allowing the overclock to go any higher. Remember, to find the fsb you will need to multiply the 166 mhz, assuming you are running 1:1 or a higher number depending on your overclock, by the ht multiplier to find your actual fsb.

arn't the via mobos kinda limiting when it comes to overclocking? well you cant use all that ram at the same time...(i dont think you were anyways) but use your ddr400 seeing as that will give you the most room for overclocking..what do your options look like in the cpu features or something similair to that?
