Which of these 2 if more "future-proof" as best as vid card are anyway

ATI X1900XT

or

2 7800 GT's in SLI

I ask without a poll to avoid the vote and run and no explanation. With the coming of DX10 somewhat soon, is there one of these 2 solutions which would be more "future-proof" (as far as video cards go anyway) than the other? I almost think maybe the ATI single, with all of those shaders that can be programmed for other things, but at the same time, I wonder if that will even happen with this line of cards.

Thanks for any input.

1900XT, its the newest and best card out(as of now) and has higher clocks, which will help future proof it...

this is my exact dilema at the moment but I was thinking of sli 7800gt 512mb. A cheaper option for now would be to get a single 7800gt and add another one at a later date but that will cost more than just a single x1900.

My dilemna as well. I have 2 7800 GT's in SLI, but I can do some selling and such and come out even. My question would come down to if that x1900XT WILL be utilized to its fullest with all those shader pixels or not. If not, I would say that the dual SLI 7800 GT's would be better for performance AND future-proof. However, if they do use them for physics andother stuff, then obviously the x1900xt wins here. Will the X1900XT get enough utilization between now and DX10 cards being the norm. Perhaps those shaders will also help using a DX10 emulation, making it better in the long run, as well?

Edit to say that X800XL of yours is no slouch, either. I have one on a home system and I love it. Runs BF2 at almost complete max and frankly, I think ATI does a better job of AA than NVidia.

well what are you doing here? are you just upgrading untill the DX10 cards come out, or are you trying to upgrade with the best you can so you can still run dx10 emulation with little performance loss....

Yes.

I have the SLI going right now. However, I also waded through many hours of driver installs and cleanings and web searching to finally get rid of my NVidia nv4_disp.dll BSOD problem. I have it fixed as of now, so I am happy. However, I guess the question would be is which would do better with DX10 and as little performance loss as possible? My 7800's are as highly valued as they will ever be right now, and I have barely owned them. That X1900XT should hold value for a while anyway. If I am gonna make the switch, I would want to do it now.

Basically, which is greater for sell options as well? 2 7800 GT's on eBay in a year or so, or 1 X1900XT?

So many questions, so little time to play games on that rig.

This is a tough one, I would say if you already have the 2 7800's than there is no point in upgrading because you would have to change alot in order to get 2 ATI cards in crossfire if you wanna upgrade in the future. If you dont have the 2 7800's or this is for a friend than I say go with the 1900XT since if you wanna upgrade later you can just go crossfire and should be pretty ok when DX10 comes out. If you have the 2 7800's wait til the next gen of cards comes out you are doing just fine.

well the 1900xt will do better with x10 when it comes... but what would be best is get a 7900gt when that comes out in a month or so and sell you 2 7800s then, youd come out with a handful of cash afterwards anyways... they are dicontinuing the 7800's, so im thinking demand will increase so you can sell themused at retail price...

Interesting thought that the 7800 GT's might actually gain some value for SLI seekers.
