They "Made" the i865 work with the Prescott (which was not out when i865 was created). They just did not make it work as well as a chipset (i9xxx) created for the Prescott.

It's just money though and one can sell the hobbled (if that turns out to be the case) chipset and buy one that was actually created with Conroe in mind.

I will wait as I am not one who tosses money around impatiently. With age does some some wisdom.

I have to agree with Ropey on this one... if the 975X does work with Conroe but is not 100% stable or utilize Conroe to it's full potential that a new mobo may be in order if you aleady own a 975X already. Will selling your current board it shouldn't that bad of a dent in the wallet for a Conroe board though.

For me it's age and the lack of money to throw around If I had the money to waste, I would probably consider it.

However, I am happy with my current build and it will be pleanty to get me at least a year, then I will see where things are going and what's out there and decide. Maybe I'll just skip Conroe and go with a Quad-core next year
