Sadly Fedex failed to deliver mine yesterday so I have to wait until Monday, however reviews I have read are consistently showing overclocks in the area of 700+MHz core and 1750-1800MHz memory which is pretty good. At those speeds it does generally tie or beat the X1900XTX (in this particular review the 7900GTX was generally 1-5FPS behind the X1900XTX)

The reason I chose the 7900GTX is I can live with lower FPS (as long as its somewhat better than my X800XL ) as long as its QUIET. Silence is of utmost importance to me.....and as soon as I get my card you can bet I'll be benching, overclocking and sharing that info with all of you guys, its what I always do when I upgrade lol.

LightSource nailed this whole thread on the head, you have to look at what you game at to see which card is better.

If you have a monitor that can display over 1280x1024 then look at the bets price vs. performance.

Bar non the 7900GT is the best performer for the price, and some said it's not worth the $300 if they have a 7800GT. Not really, since you'll only be paying up to $100 for more performance after you sell the GT. It will get you tyo DX10 but I want more and I paid $80 for a 7900GT and getting more performance.

I'm getting my 7900GT next Thursday and I'll run every single benchmark I can run and I'll compare it to my 7800GT, which could handle a very high clock and I scored the same as, if not better, a GTX.

The 7900GTX is not a knockout blow to Ati, but was never meant to be. Even with 700MHz I dont think it would be a killer card. The 2 are even, enough said. If you run a higher Res, get the XTX, if you are like 90% of the consumers out there than do not run higher than 1280x1024, get the GTX.

For the price the GTX is the best card for the high end and the 7900GT destroys the 1800XT 512MB. No need to compare the 7900GT to a 1900XT since they are in 2 totally different performance and price tiers

The 7900GTX will provide amazing image quality and FPS in any game out there at any sane resolution. Remonster, you made the right decision. Have fun with your new card.
I saw some benchies that had the 7900 gtx on top in real world apps, but in simulated testing the x1900xtx took top.

The x1900 beats the 7900GTX pretty bad in benchmarks but falls to the 7900GTX in gaming up to a certain resolution where they pretty much even out above 1600x1200.

I've alwasy said ATi did something to make their benchmarks better, code their BIOS or something to better handle the benchmarking software.

It doesnt make much sense how a card can do so well in benchmarks that it loses to a card in gaming that scored lower in benchmarks, it doesn't make much sense, unless they did it on purpose

So I think that makes 3 reviews so far that show the 7900GTX on top over the x1900XT

From the reviews I've read the 7900GTX (512mb) comes in ahead of the ATI Radeon X1900XTX. I think the difference was around 100-200 difference. For me (and yeah I'm an ATI fanboy ) that's not a big enough difference for me to want to change I mean sure your friend can brag to you that he's got the best cards out there but bring it to a LAN party and show em up nothing can beat that sweet red PCB ATI's got going If anyone watches you I guarantee you no one will notice a FPS difference.

Just my opinion

P.S. what's with NVIDIA all they ever do is a dull green PCB?
