Of course it's a way for them to make money, IT'S A COMPANY. That is what they do.
And the reason that they are so cheap is because nVidia used 90nm manufacturing, which is more efficient than their old method, in terms of both money and heat.

Yes, that deserves a w00t.

Not only is 90nm cheaper but it gives better overclocks. This has been mentioned a billion times not only in this thread but others.

with both stock cards,

7900GTX > X1900XTX at stock 3dmark06 resolution.
X1900XTX > 7900GTX at 1600x1200 for 3dmark06

In 05, XTX takes both resolutions.

In games the 7900GTX takes the X1900XTX a whole lot of times, but loses out at higher resolutions with AA.

X1900XTX is faster than 7900GTX SLI in FEAR and HL2 at high resolutions with AA.

Good information.

But seriously guys... Think about it, how many of you have LCD Monitors over 1280x1024, or for that matter, play games at any resolution above 1280x1024. At this time right now, unless ALL of you guys are specifically getting these cards to benchmark, there's really no reason in getting a $600 dollar card. I mean, all of you know that you can run just about any game out with 1280x1024 with everything on high (maybe not F.E.A.R.) and still get very good fps without any drop or anything. I mean, if you honestly play games at 1600x1200 then more power to you, but chances are if you want a good display, you're going to have to spend another $500-700 on a 20.1"+ LCD display.

And then so the system wont bottle neck you'll need a dual core processor running at least $800 (X2 4800+), and the main thing to think about here is the fact that nobody really NEEDS that much power, I mean of course this is coming from a guy with a 5700LE (2 Generations behind), and a 3200+ Winchester, so I can't really determine for SURE that nobody needs it, but chances are people are going overboard.

My point?

Get the 7900GT, if you are a gamer, get the 7900GTX or X1800XTX if you want to benchmark. Or you have the ULTIMATE GAMING MACHINE 8,000,000,0000,0,0,0,00,0,0,0,00,00,00,000...

I guess we really won't know until people start phsically comparing the cards.....I am buying a 7900gt, I am just too poor to pay $500 for a vid card. I just can't see what the gtx or x1900x will do for me? Is there a game out there that would challenge either of these cards? or the 7900gt for that matter? hmm wish I were rich
